I'm considering putting a toroidal power supply into a Monster Power HTS5100 MKII, since I have to replace the ps on the main board anyhow.  Ideas?  Also, I've read that these power conditioners tend to muddy the sound, so I'm interested in cleaning it up.  Would that be possible by just buying better caps and relays?  I'm not opposed to making my own board and going all in, but I'm on a budget and I'd like to work with what I have.

EI or C core Transformers have less noise and iron loss than Toroidal transformers, but Toroidal cores are used because they are cheaper than laminated transformers.
Toroidal transformers work well at high power.
The original supply are damaged?

Yes, original main transformer is dead.  I wouldn't be against replacing both transformers on the power board. I will be checking everything down stream for functionality and upgrading the caps, before putting power back on the board.

It's not worth fixing. Just toss it in the trash.
