New HT theater receiver for music too.

Any Anthem owners out there have regrets?  Specifically looking at the MRX 740 currently on sale at Crutchfield.  it's still a pretty large investment but I recently did away with my 2 channel system so music quality is a major concern.  Thanks for any recommendations.

I haven't heard the newest Anthem HT receivers but I do have the Anthem AVM60 processor. I use the AVM60 for FM radio, TV, video streaming and movies and for those sources the Anthem is excellent although I preferred the clarity of the Sony FDR-X1HD FM tuner and it was a sad day when it died.

For music only the AVM60 is OK but then I'm comparing it to the HoloAudio May KTE DAC/HQPlayer combo which cost me $5943.00, not exactly a fair comparison. The AVM60 has a little less clarity and 3-D imaging. The new Anthem products may have improved in those areas. My impression is the Anthem sound leans toward musicality and long term listening pleasure instead of a hyper detailed presentation. I can watch Blu-ray movies at movie theater sound levels without the sound ever getting harsh. The Anthem with Focal speakers sound like a perfect matchup. Other speakers that lean toward a detailed presentation like the GR Research NX-Studio or my Salk HT2-TL speakers that have the very detailed Seas Excel W18 magnesium cone driver would also be a good match.

I would say go for it. All Anthem products are excellent, when I was looking for a new HT processor the Anthem lineup were the only brand that had zero negative reviews.

I also have not heard the Anthem receiver line up.  However, I have owned an Anthem AVM70 4k processor and am currently running the AVM90 in my dedicated HT.  The AVM70 is a good piece of gear.  The AVM90 is in a whole different class.

Not sure how the Anthem receivers work, but if you want to use a separate DAC, then either the AVM70 or 90(and maybe the receivers as well), is not what you want.   In order to use their ARC Genesis room correction, you need to use the internal DAC that comes with the 70/90.

My room is 90% movies and 10% 2 channel.  However, even in 2 channel, you are going to have to spend some $$ to get better than what the AVM90 offers.  If you plan on using the DAC that comes with the receiver, and if you like the Anthem sound, you sould be fine with any of their receivers.
