remote pairing apple and epot v3 max
« on: 31 Oct 2025, 05:58 pm »
Hello, I've had an Epot V3 Max Balanced for many years. I admit it was in a cupboard and I wasn't using it.

I was using a preamp from HCFR (the French forum).
Since I wanted to listen to it again, I plugged it back in and flashed the firmware to make sure I had the latest version. Unfortunately, the Apple remote wasn't working, and I performed the pairing procedure as described (which is normal after a flash).
When I'm not using the equipment, I unplug it using a power strip.

When I tried to turn it back on, I had lost the pairing between the Epot V3 Max and the Apple remote.
I tried changing the remote's ID, but the problem persists.
I had never noticed this before; is this a defect you've observed? I should mention that I've reflashed both cards, and the problem occurs on both card 1 and 2.

I have another issue, but I'll discuss it in a separate post.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Christophe

Hi Christophe,

I've been buried in shop construction the past few weeks while also converting all my office/development computing over to Linux and letting go of Microsoft, so apologies for not seeing and responding to this earlier.

The pairing feature of the V3 has been rock solid and stable for a long time so I'm not aware of this being a issue. Without looking into the code, my initial thought is to repeat the pairing process and then immediately after you have the unit talking to the remote, turn off the preamp normally - don't just remove power, but turn it off via the remote. Some parameters get saved during turn-off and perhaps that will save the pairing. All such parameters are stored in a dedicated eeprom chip on the V3 board. Those eeprom chips are almost bullet proof but are not beyond developing a bad memory slot. That would be the most logical hardware based explanation but it's also extremely unlikely. Try the orderly save idea and see if that clears it up.

Best,
Morten
