Tube power amp under 3k
« on: 15 Oct 2025, 12:29 am »
Hello all,

After easing into tube gear with a tube preamp, am now looking to purchase a tube power amp.
With sales suspended for VTA ST70s until all current orders are fulfilled, are there any other tube amps (new or used) around or below $3k that are worth looking into?

How many Watts do you need?
If you have a low efficiency speaker as 93dB or less use a Class D or GaN-FET power amp, but if you have a 100dB speaker look for a used Decware Rachel or order something with Radu Tarta or Dennis Had.

Have some 95db efficient speaker so 5 watts or more should be good and definitely considering one of Decware's 6 or 20 watt amps

I’d highly recommend any Quicksilver amp.

I did a quick search on US Audio Mart filtering the category by price Min=$2000 and Max=$3000.  91 amps turned up and the choices are dizzying.  But you could do a similar search and then when an amp catches your eye come back to this thread and ask us what we think.  Always happy to help others spend their money!

I wouldn't mind trying a Dennis Had built amp.
You can find them on Ebay, sold direct from Dennis. Dennis uses the name "radioman731" on Ebay.
I believe he uses the brand (Inspire).

Also some used ones on Ebay, (not sure of previous users integrity).
