Can the second output of the BP-19 now be configured as "Variable"?

Hello James,

I'm wondering if a change has been made to the BP-19. . .

The BP-19 manual specifies that one of the two XLR outputs and one of the two RCA outputs are "fixed," and are therefore not controlled by the volume knob.

Accordingly, one of the pairs of XLR outputs is marked, on the preamp, as MAIN, which is controlled by the volume knob, and the other is marked FIXED, which tells the user that it will output the full voltage unless controlled by some other volume control.

Recently, though, I've seen photos of the BP-19 where one pair of XLR and one pair of RCA outputs are marked MAIN, and the others are marked FIX/VAR, which suggests the second output can now be configured to either be volume-controlled or not.

So. . .has this small change indeed been made to the BP-19? If so, what would be the cost of having this small mod made to my BP-19?
And, if not, what was the point in changing the label FIX to FIX/VAR?

Thanks! Joel.

Hi Joel,

I believe it is available in software to make the change.
Email Adam on that - atanner@bryston.com

I just tried a BP-17 Cubed as a possible replacement for my BP-26/MPS-2.

However, I can't really make a fair assessment as the BP-17.3 can't handle (i.e., it distorts) the output of my DACs, one of which outputs 7.75 Vrms and the other 12.25 Vrms.
At the same time, it sounds great with the 4.0 Vrms input of a Bryston BDA-3.

So. . .would it be possible to compare the maximum permissible voltage inputs for the BP-26, the BP-17.3 and the BP-19?

If, for example, the BP-19 has the same or lower maximum input voltage rating as the BP-17.3, there's no point in me trying it at all, as I have no plans to replace my DACs.

Thanks in advance for any help with finding these specs!
