  • I reject your music, and substitute my own.
What sound system do you use to listen to heavy metal and hard rock music?

What are your listening habits?

What media do you use or prefer?

NIGHTFALL1970

System:
Speakers: GR-Research Bully’s
Amps: Buckeye Amps mono locks with Purifi modules
DAC: Topping Centaurus R2R in NOS mode
Disc player: Panasonic DP-UB9000P1K blu-ray player
SMSL PL200T Transport CD Player (just got)
Rega P6 turntable with Ortophon 2M blue
AVA DVA A2D ANALOG-TO-DIGITAL CONVERTER
AVA VISION Q+ PHONO PREAMPLIFIER
Interconnect and speaker wire: GR-Research
Two Rythmik F12G subwoofers
LAiV Audio Harmony uDDC re-clocker

Prefer CDs for convenience I think I listen to CDs 80% to LP 20%.
Mostly listening on Saturday night and/or Sunday night. Don’t really get to listen much at all during the week. Sometimes at work I listen on my Sennheizer headphones with my iPhone to my CDs loaded at full resolution.

Sorry for the sideways picture. I don’t know how to fix it.

This is the type of system I imagine for serious metal listening.  How are those Bullys without the additional Rythmik subs in play?

NIGHTFALL1970

The bullys are crystal clear and sound fantastic with everything. They have their own Rythmik F12Gs in them so they have plenty of bass. I can turn off all four of them and the music is still awesome, just without the low end. After close to 40 years in this hobby they are the best sounding speakers I’ve ever heard and ever owned. They could be considered a final speaker purchase.
I would consider their strongest point the clarity and detail and their realistic presentation of drums!

I just swapped to my "winter" amp, which is an Ayon Spirit PA, Ayon CD-35 pre and CD player. I have several pairs of monitors I swap out, all with 2 REL T-5X subs. Currently listening to T+A Criterions. The "summer" amps are the MKIII AGD Audions.  :guitar:
