Evolution STA vs STA-9x Sound Differences
« on: Yesterday at 06:50 pm »
Jason,

This question is directed to you specifically, but anyone else who has heard both is welcome to chime in.

I own the Evo STA, and  really like it. I've used it with my 96.5dB floorstanding speakers, 86dB bookshelf speakers, and took it to a friend's house to play in his system. It's always sounded excellent. It's a keeper. According to your amp comparison chart, the Evo STA and the STA-9x have very similar sound characteristics. [ https://nuprimeaudio.com/guides/amp-comparison/ ] I'm once again seriously thinking I should buy a pair of STA-9x amps for my home in Taiwan. I've got a pair of Fritz Loudspeakers LS/R-5 speakers which are 82.5dB, so they need serious power to sound their best.

If someone were to directly compare an Evo STA to a pair of STA-9x (in dual mono mode), would he/she be able to discern a difference? Their prices sure are different. Are dual STA-9x amps little giant killers? The Evo STA delivers 40A of current. How many Amps of current do 2x STA-9x deliver?

I found this information:
STA-9X Specifications (per amplifier)
Stereo Mode: 2 x 130W @ 8 ohms, or 2 x 200W @ 4 ohms.
Mono Mode: 300W @ 8 ohms, or 320W @ 4 ohms.
Rated/Peak Current: 10A / 15A.

Does the rated/peak current remain the same while in dual mono mode, or does it increase?

Regards,

Michael
