To this day, I still wonder if you're a Bryston employee, an A tier troll, or actually....
No, Bryston stopped providing significant updates to BDPs' own MPD back in 2014 +/-. Notable updates after that were BDP could work as Roon endpoint (2015 ish), and USB wifi adapter dongle functionality.
I bought my BDP-1 to run WAV/FLAC from local USB hard drives. I didn't need Tidal, fancy database, etc etc. Just straight folder view, play, pause, forward, rewind. That's it. Nothing else. Back in 2014 or so when I got it, it was actually fabulous at it. By 2018ish, the MPD updates had essentially made even that basic functionality useless. It'd get stuck so frequently with the same library size as before. Hell, I even remade the whole thing new a couple of times from scratch with only a dozen albums or so....still sucked.
For the past few years, it can only work as a Roon endpoint. The moment I switch over to MPD, all hell breaks loose.
Bryston has offered absolutely NOTHING in this decade as far as digital goes. No feature updates whatsoever. We used to get constant updates back in early 2010s about Manic Moose from Mr. Tanner or Chris (developer). I pretty much don't see them or get updates from them at all now on this platform.
I was so invested with Bryston products early on, but now would not trust them for anything digital. I was a bit sad that I got a good deal on Torus conditioner, only because it didn't have the Bryston faceplate to match it. Now, I consider that a blessing in disguise.
OS 3 ain't happening people....discontinuing the BDP-3 made it super obvious. If there are any updates from Bryston employees reading this, please let us know.
