Greetings! I purchased these speakers from Salk about three years ago, shortly before Jim retired. I just noticed today that the tweeter in both speakers is distorting in certain frequencies. Since it's in both speakers -- more one than the other, but still both -- do y'all have any suggestions for diagnosing/solving the problem?
Could it be cables? Speaker wire? Connections on any of these?
I've also reached reached out to Jim, but I'm not sure how engaged he is anymore, obviously.

Do you have other speakers or ones you can borrow to eliminate the speakers or something else up the signal chain. I think you need to figure out, if its the speakers or something else first.

Agreed. After I posted this, my first thought went to my preamp. It's a Vac from the 90s. I think I can bypass it with my CD player. When I have time this weekend I'm going to experiment. Unfortunately, these are the only speakers I own.

Can you take your speakers elsewhere with the music that you know creates the distortion to test it there?

My guess would be equipment related. Those tweeters can handle a good amount of power. And Jim and Dennis are not crossing them over outside the recommended manufacturers specs.

You can borrow my small JBL 2500 speakers with a metal dome tweeter if you are close to Tucson, AZ. They are a good distortion tester.

Thanks, y'all. I've isolated the problem to interconnects that are about 30 years old. What can I say, I'm a set it and forget kind of guy. LOL. I've been thinking about recabling the whole system from the same manufacturer anyway, so, interconnects ordered and on the way!
