Zathura: A Space Adventure is about two bickering brothers, Walter is 10 years old and Danny is 6. Walter torments Danny by lowering him into the creepy basement by a dumb waiter where Danny discovers an old game behind the stairs and finally convinces Walter to play it with him. Both are drawn into an intergalactic adventure when their house is hurled through the depths of space by the magical board game and chaos ensues.
I missed this film when it first came out but it recently showed up on my radar because it was directed by Jon Favreau. Fans of the Star Wars universe will recognize his name. Jon has also been active in all the recent Disney/Star Wars side stories via his company Golem Productions. Jon's recent collaborations include: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and the Apple TV+ documentary series Prehistoric Planet.
Jon's films include: Elf, Zathura: A Space Adventure, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Cowboys & Aliens, Chef, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and the upcoming 2026 film The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Zathura: A Space Adventure doesn't disappoint, the young kids are annoying like real kids, the action is non-stop and the special effects are A+. And the film has a heartwarming ending.
