I'm only posting here because I don't know where else to put it and Danny's connection as the crossover designer.

These popped up in the state recently and look very interesting.  Asking price is $650

How do they hold up to today's speakers? What's the chance the drivers have life left in them, even if driven hard?

I can't find much about the crossover approach so was curious.

I only found this detail:

ystem: Multi-way, seven-driver direct-radiating system,
vented enclosure with two rear-firing flared ports
Drivers: Vifa Ring Radiator tweeter, four custom 5.25"
long-throw aluminum cone woofers, one custom 4" alu
minum cone midrange and one custom 8" sealed side
firing woofer with built-in 350 watt amplifier for the 8"
woofer only.
Crossover: Tweeter at 6.0KHz, progressive array, vari
able slope.
Frequency Response: 29Hz—20KHz +/- 3 dB
Impedance: 6 ohms nominal
Sensitivity: 90.5dB (1w/1M)
Size: 51.5" H x 15.6" D (add 1.75" for amp protrusion) x
11.8" W
Other Features:
R-DES digital EQ system
8” woofer is high passed at 28Hz
0-180 phase adjustment, gain, and
crossover adjustments (40Hz-150Hz)
Auto-on / standby mode

Thoughts?

The original version used fair cheap parts and did not measure well.

I would up redesigning them. I balanced out the response and the parts quality came way up. AV123 launched that version (with my crossover) as a signature version.

If they have my crossover in them, then that is not a bad deal.

If they have the former crossover, then all of it really needs to be upgraded.

Thanks for the reply Danny.  I talked with the seller, they are originals so they would have to be upgraded in my view.

Are they standard four way with all the mid-woofers wired in series / parallel?

Do you still offer upgrade kits for them?  I didn't see any on your website.

Thanks,
Paul

I highly doubt they are actually the originals, very few were sold before they went to Dannys Xover fix.

in original form they were not unlistenable, just lots of room for improvement.
Dannys production fixed a few problems, then the full blown xover upgrade that was sold later on took it to a whole different level.

I would make sure the plate amps work
Tweeters are still available to replace from PE so no worries there.

I would try and steal them for a bit less and then upgrade if needed
