... how the hell were they able to capture and contain these alien species?

Probably trial and error but cats are good at capturing Trypanohyncha Ocellus, aka the Eye. The ship also had rats for tick food.

All they needed was a cage. Robo-bunnies are used in Florida to attract pythons

That said, the entire ship (except one) was filled with expendables.

We're all interested in finding out how these aliens were captured, just in case of course.

I have been hiking for 45 years, much of it in designated wilderness areas. In my experience, many people abandon common sense when they enter an alien environment like the wilderness. Out here in the desert Southwest the biggest, most dangerous element is the heat, it kills more people than any mountain lion or venomous creature. Even experienced hikers succumb to it. And heat doesn't appear dangerous at all.

I can imagine an alien world would be the same, the dangerous looking stuff can be avoided. The small cute crawly bugs and eyeballs might be a hazard. I'm guilty of bending over to get a close look at a new creature or a mushroom or an egg. I wouldn't last long on an alien world. The last thing I would hear is "Wayne caught an alien, bag him."

Time to prune a little to get back on topic.
