Day off work again, made a mess and did more sanding. I'm too dumb to figure out how to do a rollover edge on these with my router, there aren't many 90 degree angles, and I didn't wanna irreplicabley bite the cabinets, so I just started sanding it by hand... By the time I looked up it had been about 6 hours...

Trying to get something similar to the front baffle of my NX-Studios... I think I still need to sand more...  :?

Looking good now.

Thanks Danny, working on it!!!

So I did... Spent another day sanding until my arm numbed and I was satisfied with the roundovers, things look even enough for me to not be bothered by them although it's hard to tell because I'm just sitting in a little chair under our carport sanding away like some kind of gollum creature, inspecting them from every angle. I also filled the gaps/holes and put down a little layer of shellac primer to see what things looked like, did more sanding...

I think I am going to paint on my next day off, was planning on spraying the cabinets with white duratex like I did last time so they're somewhat matching. Then hit them with a poly mixture that has some white UV reactant pigment in there to add a little undercover spice. I'm trying to get to it before I lose the warm weather... I think I'm ready to paint, I dunno. I'll get it done.

Finished the journey to make the cabinets glow under blacklight for absolutely no reason by mixing pigment powder into Polycrylic:

ALL BUGS MUST DIE!!!!!!!!!!!

Tired of painting. I think I'm done now though.

Hey guys... Is this too much no-rez, am I being stupid, is this coverage necessary? Feels very cramped and I dunno if I should be doing this, ha.

Started to put the crossover together... Have zero confidence in my abilities, but an email from GR said I was on the right track, so I banged on. The thing that confused me the most were the negative connections, but I think I am supposed to do something like this:

I got one done?

Was feeling ok until I realized I may have melted the side of one of the poly caps when I was heating the shrink on...

Not sure if that's fubar'd, if it is, I am very sad. Bah! Didn't even notice until I stood back from it at the end n just had stomach flips at the sight.

Second one done, went a lot smoother...

I think I'm gonna go forward and see what happens with the melty poly cap though the prospect of desoldering the tubes n speakers n taking it all apart again to replace it kinda has me on the fence. A better safe than sorry type of deal?

I would test the cap to see if it is still in specification, if it is you might give it a shot. Time will tell if it was damaged to where it will fail early, but just guessing at this point.

I'm going to go ahead and replace it since taking it apart to correct the cap if it is screwy would probably drive me over the edge.

... I also managed to drop one of the tweeters on the ground while carrying it over to be installed in the cabinet. Shattered it on the tile floor. I blame the dog, but I should have been carrying it in a way she couldn't have toppled it. So... yeh.  :duh: :duh: :duh:

I did get one of the speakers done though!

Super cramped in this thing, I could barely screw in the mounts for the crossover. It's supposed to screw in the back as well but there's no way I am reaching it. The two up front seem good enough. I found these little white plastic screw covers in Lowes, thought it might isolate them better or something? They're neat though.

Super duper cramped. I put some polyfill over the bottom as well.

Tested 'er and it's working well! Now I just need a new cap, a new tweeter... And some way to keep the tube connectors from falling out the bottom. I actually have no idea how I'm gonna do that.

As a punishment for my crimes against tweeters and caps, I decided to feed rope through 50ft of cable. The last time I did this the rope kept breaking off from the rod so I hot glued it all together this time and it worked a lot better.

One down, one to go.

Yeah, took a bit and went through a few pairs of latex gloves to help the chafing, but got it done!

Thanks for the encouraging words! I know this isn’t the most exciting project in comparison to the absolute legends that frequent the boards but I am excited to get these running, has been something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I’m really excited to listen to some tunes!!

Not too much to report.

I'm waiting on the replacements for the broken bits to arrive. In the meantime, I did get the source set up for the things. In the most economical way that I could imagine doing it, the whole setup will run off the Schiit Syn. I soldered some fans to run off USB tonight to keep the whole stack cool:

I did go ahead and get one half of the surround running.

The second half, with any luck, will get done tomorrow.

Must say though, even with only one half of the surround going, the Syn is pretty cool.
