Really like Prairie Prince. Was very lucky to see The Tubes several times when they were doing the full stage shows. Amazing! :D

He was the perfect accomplice for Dick Dale too. :D

I used to be a moderately competent rock drummer quite a few years ago. I used to play in a cover band that used to play parties in the LA area, especially the San Fernando Valley back in the late 70's, early 80's.

So, any talk about drummers, especially where their high level of musicianship is concerned, interests me.

Damian Schmitt - plays mostly fusion.

Impact Fuse - Moscow

I only see one mention so far of one of the best of all time, Billy Cobham.

The man is a beast!

Next, someone I am sure is almost unknown here, Furio Chirico from Italy.

Here he is in 2019, at the age of 68, playing with the chops he had from the 70's.

I saw Keith Moon/The Who live, Bonzo/ Led Zep 4 times. Drum solos were standard for live shows back then. One of the best I remember seeing was Michal Shrieve/ Santana

Alex Machacek, Terry Bozzio, Jimmy Johnson at my local jazz club, The Baked Potato.

This was Terry's "small kit". I actually watched him set it up the afternoon of this gig.

The guy was seriously borderline OCD, making sure each drum and cymbal was perfectly in position to the centimeter, and each was tuned exactly right.

Three essential criteria to make this list.

The drummer MUST drive the band, and furthermore - control the intensity of the performance.

The drummer MUST have the ability to play behind and in front of the beat.

The drummer MUST be in a band that makes great music.

Please do not post clips of guys playing to click-tracks, playing by numbers, always playing on the beat, playing technique not music, and especially cover-bands and lengthy, boring, indulgent jams - with the guitar too loud.

I don't see the requirements you mention above, being in the OP's initial post.

Did you confer with the OP to make sure your 3 requirements align with theirs?

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

That is okay, I don't know everything about drumming. I quite playing drums when I learned about rolls and flams, realizing it was too hard. Interesting the drum teacher in high school was my drum teacher before high school. He would eat a hamburger in front of us and make me drool.

My mom was relieved no doubt as I knew it was driving her nuts as she was hard of hearing.

Hey! We agree on a song Lark's Tongue. I listened to this song quite a bit, not so much lately. :smoke:
