Just when I thought it was safe to go ahead and order a customized Clari-T  :D ....should I instead have my TEAC modded by Vinny?  I bought one not too long ago and its just been sitting in its box (waiting to be used with something).

It sounds like a perfect match for the B200's, though, as DMason mentioned....6 ohms, somewhat elevated bass response, and 30 watts.

What do you guys think?  Clari-T or battery'd TEAC?

the 1050 X 650 is what Norbert and I came up with, shaving an inch or so at a time. It gets the most out of the least (area) it would seem. Then you can add DEQ and lift the lower register up. As Mxgsr points out, you can really do "stupid" things to the FR of this driver without inducing modulation of upper bandwidth and absolutely without induced distortion.

You and Norbert stumbled upon the Golden Ratio?    What is the FOS of that OB, son?

Sorry, couldn't resist.  Not another word.

The ratio is not what the final dimensions reflect, which you'd know if you knew more about what you're talking about.

Hey LymphNode

Non-Hodgkins in your case? Are you on an active round right now?

Son??  I've earned one of polite society's greater respects. What's your issue?

You should read the thread to get the context of this discussion. A does not equal B. You will notice I answered someone's question regarding the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio wasnt of any concern to Norbert and I, we were experiencing first hand the phenomenon of baffle roll-off. The dimensions I wound up with had to do with " it sounds good enough for the size."

-- But I love ignorance flaunted. Thanks for that. It serves to separate the doers from the critics. Take note all. Ever seen a statue to a critic? You know Lymphnode, it's assholes like you who miss the point every time, who take  fun, and try to make it tedious. Thank you for the tedium. Thank you for your special kind of contribution. Your little breath of fresh air  highlights the good nature of the others posting to this thread.

Sealed enclosure is as mundane as it can get.  Get over it.  This thread is specifically about b200 with dipole radiation or similar dispersion.

dmason, thanks for your continuing posts. watching the experiment unfold is really interesting.

lymphnode, if you check the bottom of page 24 of this thread, it sounds like dmason answered your concerns...

I prefer to meet someone 'tete a tete' before calling them something like that...cheap shots online arent appropiate :nono: and really the diffrence between conotation and denotation in postings can be really varied.Tsk tsk tsk

OK, to get this thread going again, here is a little info tease - the Sharp 1 bit amp from Vinnie has arrived, and I have it set up in my system downstairs.  I should be able to get it happening tonight, and will offer up some thoughts on how that little digital amp does.

Darn good looking unit, I have to say.

Mark,
Should be interesting comparing the Sharp with the modded Teac's you have. Looking forward to your comments...thanks ! :) [/list:u]

Very nice.  I've only read a passing remark that the teac was better than the sharp.  Should be very interesting because, so far, the teac, the sharp, and the clari-t all cost about the same!   :o

For Clarification (no pun intended on the Clari-T   ), Mark does not own the Clari-T or the Red Wine modded Teac.

He does have a Teac with a switch mode power supply that I modded (just the power supply), but there is no point in bringing that into the equation...it doesn't even come close to the latest modded Teac.

Thanks for keep us posted, Mark!

My mistake....read his system list info..."VinnieR modded Teac A-L700P"....thought it was the new battery modded Red Wine Teac....  :?  [/list:u]

True, I should have clarified that one myself, but it seems to be well covered now!

The mods that Vinnie mentioned, are not the DC mods that many find fantastic.

I will try the Sharp against the JVC mini system (the actual competition in my system) and I will use the clever pre outs to also include a piece about the Sharp vs the Bolder Teac.

Vinnie is right, from what I have read (both posted and PM) the new DC mods are in a different league from the simple PS mods he did for me a couple of months ago.

I might post that comparison elsewhere, as this thread is mostly meant for Visaton exploration, but if people don't mind, since I will be using the B200's for the comparison, and in the end I will decide on what to use with them, I might post it here, to give folks another option for powering their OB.

Hopeful Equation:      Bass boost  = Narrower baffle or No sub, no DEQ.

I am going to be very interested also in the Sharp sonic signature combined with that of the B200.

Just to revisit the question of vibration. I was reading about the revised "Orion" OB speaker from Mr Linkwitz, and he noted a particular inprovement in preformance when the  bass-mid driver was magnet mounted, with just a foam tape to seal it to the baffle. Their was enough improvement to make him change values in his active xover. I am going to build new baffles. I have decided to go with the measurements of 24"x 48". In these new baffles I will magnet mount the B200's and see what gains I get, if any. I can almost see with mind a gain though

      Nigel.

PS, how are all you budding OB people going :?:
