Introduction
« on: 2 Aug 2025, 09:05 am »
Hello fellow audiophiles,  I'm a retired television sound engineer from San Francisco area who recently moved into a new residence in the Southern CA desert.  i have begun researching new speakers for my listening room.  I have an old pair of JBL 4311's but feel I'd like something new that takes advantage of modern developments in speaker design.  I'm also interested in learning about acoustical treatment ideas people have successfully used to overcome anomalies of a standard room of sheet rock walls.  I hope I may be allowed to join and participate in your AudioCircle Blog!
Thank You, Gary

Hi Gary & welcome to the forum. Feel free to post up a thread asking for speaker and room acoustic tips, and i'm sure you'll get plenty of input from members. Though don't forget to mention your budget, and provide some basic details about your room and partering gear. Enjoy .

Welcome!

Recommend active monitors (used by nearly all recording and mixing studios).  They use sophisticated low voltage crossovers that feed one mono block amp per driver.  Most are 2-way designs with no amps or speaker cables.  Provide better dynamics, deeper bass, and more accuracy.  A couple I'd suggest:  JBL 305 Mk2 ($300/pair desktops that can fill a medium sized room and sound surprisingly good) and JBL 708P ($4000/pair with 8 inch woofer that can fill a large room, one of the best I've owned).
