Well Tempered Classic - bearing cup leak (?)
« on: 7 Jul 2025, 10:31 am »
Hello,
I've recently acquired Well Tempered Classic (with square motor) and while unpacking it, I've noticed that the bearing cup was smeared a bit with the motor oil on the outside at the bottom (where the bottom bearing grub screw is). Should I worry about it? The seller claims that he didn't notice it and that there was no noticable leak or oil under the table.

Hopefully it's just the remains of the oil which got spilled somehow during transportation. There is no oil on the sides of the cup.

But in case I would need to deal with it - any advice or experience to share? I've seen recommendations of putting ptfe tape of some sort on the grub screw (?), but I don't think I want to touch the original screws (would be hard to find a replacement).
I'm thinking of maybe just cutting a circle from some material and sticking it to the bottom of the cup to prevent any leaks (?) Any other ideas?

Thank you.

Do you mean the cup holding the turntable spindle? It holds liquid silicone IIRC. The square motor is sealed. No oil is used AFAIK. FWIW, mine has never leaked anything. Pushing 40 years old & still going strong.
