Looking for nearby cabinet builder
« on: 1 Jul 2025, 01:56 pm »
I live in Western IL about two hours away from St. Louis and am looking for a trusted cabinet builder who has a good track record. The cabinets in question were designed by Dave Dlugos (planet-10) for Lowther PM6a and are a fairly complicated build since they are Onken-style and trapezoidal-shaped. I lack the space and tools to attempt such a build myself and haven't found anyone local. Does anyone know of any cabinet builders within a few hours' drive off Western IL who might be able to handle such a job? I will be happy to pay a fair price to have the cabinets built since they are among the last things I need to complete my audio room.

Have you tried reaching out to Steve Deckert the owner of Decware? He’s in Peoria, IL and is a great guy I got to know him personally when I lived near Peoria years ago. He may be able to help you as he builds some very nice speakers.

Oh indeed Steve is extremely busy. I should have been more specific, I wasn’t suggesting that the OP contact Steve to have him build the cabinets. I was suggesting that he contact Steve, who most likely has someone building his cabinets for him and that he might possibly share that information. I doubt seriously at this point that Steve is doing his own carpentry work along with all of the amplifiers and kit that he is building.  :green:

Not sure what happened to the other post, but I was responding the their post talking about how busy Decware is. They had also posted about some Amish company in IL but that post has been deleted. Anywho, I wish you the best of luck. If you do talk to Steve, tell him Craig aka MitsuMan says hello.

They are tricky to build.

Note: they look like an Onken but use my own (quite different) tuning.
