Looking for nearby cabinet builder
« on: 1 Jul 2025, 01:56 pm »
I live in Western IL about two hours away from St. Louis and am looking for a trusted cabinet builder who has a good track record. The cabinets in question were designed by Dave Dlugos (planet-10) for Lowther PM6a and are a fairly complicated build since they are Onken-style and trapezoidal-shaped. I lack the space and tools to attempt such a build myself and haven't found anyone local. Does anyone know of any cabinet builders within a few hours' drive off Western IL who might be able to handle such a job? I will be happy to pay a fair price to have the cabinets built since they are among the last things I need to complete my audio room.

Have you tried reaching out to Steve Deckert the owner of Decware? He’s in Peoria, IL and is a great guy I got to know him personally when I lived near Peoria years ago. He may be able to help you as he builds some very nice speakers.

Steve (Decware) is so busy now with his business I doubt he would take the time to build something else. They have a 2 to 3 year wait list on amplifiers.

Have you tried any Amish wood working places?
Not sure where you are, but there is one just north of Plymouth, IL called Hilltop Woodworking, they make custom cabinets and furniture.
580 N 250th Rd Plymouth, IL is the house, 586 N 250th Rd is the wood shop. It is just off of IL highway 61.
44 miles NE of Quincy.
I assume no phone since there is not one on their sign next to the highway.  :(

I have never stopped when driving by, but always wondered if given plans they would make speaker cabinets.
