Hi, in 1980 I had a great job cutting grass and delivering grocery’s on a private island,Cushing Island, off Portland Maine. This was just for the summer. When I left I was given a gift of 12 oz.bottles of Narragansett beer.I saved the case and wanted to make a speaker stand of some sort. It took me 3 years to track down another case like this.I found the mate in a junk pile my friend had 3 years later. I was weened on Gansett my freshman year at URI and that year Robert Shaw pounded one down in Jaws. The base of the stand is a milk crate hustled out of a back alley. For ballast is a bunch of Absolute Sound mags.which also lie under the speaker.I made these speakers in 1990. They are Wood Style 502’s,with an 8 inch Audax coax,a Variovent in the back, and about 25 pounds of Plastisine modeling clay inside for dampining, ala Audio Basics, the monthly by Frank VanAlstine. Egg crate foam rubber inside for damping. I even made a little logo out of a paint stick, stain, and wood burner but the ridge on the Gansett case is hiding it.The ridge is good for cat protection.Zip ties hold the crates together. The catalog Audio Advisori shown is folded in half under the speaker, dampining and providing a slight angle upward aimed at my ears when I’mlistening….Mark Korda
