Fritz Carbon 7 speakers
« on: 20 Jun 2025, 04:03 pm »
I will be receiving a pair of Fritz Carbon speakers the end of next week for me to review.  If I really like them, I will probably buy a pair.  I recently bought a pair of Arendal 1528 BS speakers.  I am on the fence with them.  I am having trouble finding a good amp match.  Mac gear should match well with the 1528's.

The pair Fritz is sending me have the beautiful Tiger Ebony veneer of course as I told Fritz if I ordered a pair, it must be in the Tiger Ebony or striped Rosewood.

I will post a review when I get them.  I should have my new Levinson 5805 Integrated by then.   :)

Wow, surprised to hear you are on the fence about the Arendal’s.  You seemed to really be impressed with them not too long ago.  I’ve never heard a bad thing about Fritz’s speakers.  Looking forward to hearing about your impressions.

I'm looking forward to your review and comparison, I never heard any Levinson gear either. Sounds like too much fun.

The 1528's are awesome speakers.  The trouble I am having is that they lean to the sunny side of neutral and I am having trouble finding an amp that pairs well with it.  It needs a warmer amp like a Mac.  I had purchased a warm sounding Krell K-300i integrated yesterday but canceled the order as Krell is in Limbo and may be out of business for good.  The 1528's can be shouty or peaky with some female vocals with the Marantz PM-10 that I bought and am returning to Music Direct.  I was going to buy a high powered tube amp as the 1528's need over 100 wpc.  But those are too expensive.
It they are also too bright with my Gold Note phono preamp but I just bought a Shelter 501 MKIII cartridge which fixed that issue.

I think that the Levinson amp that I bought today should be ok.  If I need a little more warmth, I will switch all my cables to Duelund wire including speaker cables.  They do live up to their reputation of adding a hint of warmth.  I already own and RCA with Duelund and have an XLR cable coming next week.

I am having fun but it is also frustrating when things do not work out as expected.  I am so use to the sound of my Pass/BAT combo which is smooth, lush, detailed and dynamic.  I wished the Marantz Ruby amp had worked out.  It is so listenable.

If you can find one an Audia Flight FL Three S should give you what you are looking for.

Thanks but I already pulled the trigger on a Mark Levinson 5805 integrated.   If I don't like it, I will flip it and give a look at the audio flight which looks like a great.amp.

I had the Fritz Carrera in house for a while. Really nice speaker. Wish he could make some 2.5 ways, or something bigger. He was also a very nice guy the few time I spoke with him.

I’ve sometimes wondered how the carbons sound. I’ve owned a pair of his LS-5/R speakers for about five years now and I really like them. My sole complaint is that with a low 82.5dB sensitivity I must power them with a powerful amplifier. I’ve sometimes wished they were available in a 2.5-way configuration, but I’m in no hurry to replace them. .
