If you need more bass then get the X-SLS tower cabinets.

X-Static is pretty close to what you want.  Something like this is going to sound a lot better than your friends speaker.  Way better clarity/detail in the midrange due to it being split over 2 midrange drivers, a much more open sound in the soundstage and imaging due to OB mids and very punchy bass due to the dual sealed woofers down low:

The X-MTM Encores are fully boxed, ported and play down to 35hz and are 90db so easy to drive which will make them very dynamic as well as great midrange clarity and midbass punch:

Although, if it was me, I'd get a pair of these X-CS speakers, orient them vertically instead of horizontally and put them on top of a pair of dual OB servo subs as stands.  You'd end up with crazy high performance modular tower speakers that would beat just about any tower speaker in the world:

Oh yeah!  I regret selling my pair of X-CS.  I actually preferred them over X-LS.  They were really good with male vocals and handled more power.

I actually had a speaker a while back called the Elsinore's I believe.  Also DIY.  They used MTM up top like the X-MTM's but then used another 2 woofers for bass and midbass re-enforcement only.  The extra woofers rolled in right where the baffle step happens and allowed for a simplified crossover.  It was a 2.5 way design.  Very clever design and also really good bass (still needed a sub though, IMO).  I think I ended up running mine fully active because I was trying to deal with acoustic bass issues in my room and I eventually went to full OB because I found that no EQ was every sufficient to deal with the bass issues I was facing.  OB solved all of that nicely, in one fell swoop.

But aren't you getting the Mockingbird's soon?  If so, I promise you, once you get them in your system, you will not be listening to any other speakers, the new line arrays will completely outclass any other speaker.

I have always wondered about the MTM and found a pair of the AV123 version locally. I do not like the low end, at all.  The tweeter is different, but the low end is the problem.  "Hollow" sounding.  The bass from my Duette completely outclasses them.

This is what I want, ideally with a few of the lower woofers that are designed to play deep.  Throw a couple 8545s in there... or even just 1!  I had a pair of Odyssey Lorelei and the bass was shocking.  Far superior to the X-MTM version I heard above.

Isn't the LGK 2.4 Tower supposed to be a great speaker?  I want the Encore version of that... with the rear tweeter and the HARP device inside.

I'm not sure how that is anything other than a great speaker.

The speaker could sit in the same spot as my Encores on their stand.  I understand this is very unlikely to happen, but it's feedback.

I owned a pair of Odyssey Lorelei, probably the longest I ever owned a pair of speakers, before changing to something different. I went through a few pairs since then exploring different designs. Klaus makes some nice stuff and wouldn’t hesitate recommending his products. Though, obviously with OB subs and higher efficiency of the NX Oticas are overall better sounding, especially the bass. But they cost a lot more to.

To be fair, the AV123 speakers didn’t come with No Rez which makes a big difference.  Swapping out the caps with Sonicaps and good bypass caps also improves performance.

More fun with speaker design threads...lol

I'm a big fan of Danny's stuff. I have the Encores and the LS9's.
