SMSL p100 & SU-1

I recently obtained an SMSL CD player, model p100 & the SMSL DAC SU-1

I did this based on a review by ‘Cheap Audio Man’.

I had given up on my CD collection. Listening either through an old cheap blue Ray player or my XBoX …

Through either CDs sounded flat & lifeless.

But… watching the review, & noting the total price for both was just over $200… I made the purchase. Through Amazon. DAC arrived next day, CD player took 8 weeks.

The difference is extraordinary. I was genuinely surprised. Not, quite as good as Apple Lossless streaming… but quite listenable.

I connect CD player to the DAC via fiber optic cable & from the DAC to a Denon X4700H receiver analog RCA input.

I then tried optical directly from CD player to the Denon… not nearly as good as the SMSL DAC … which was quite disappointing.

Issues: Both devices receive power through USB-C connections. You have to be certain you have a uSB plug cable of transmitting enough watts.

Like 9 watts. Because 5 watts didn’t work.

The CD player will just sit there ‘READ’ flashing on the display… or for the DAC the Optical input indicator light flashes…  rather annoying.  SMSL didn’t actually provide the USB plugs…
