For me, it isnt so much the type of music that embarasses me...  its those moments when I catch myself singing along to the song!  You know, with the female vocals (kicks dirt in the ground and looks down)

...why do birds, suddenly ..appear?...  everytime..  *DOH*!

(3) Anything by Raffi.
...

I can feel the embarrassment pouring out of my ears.
...

C'mon...Raffi rocks.   :guitar:

Suddenly this sounds like a support group...thanks for making me feel like less of a pariah Phil.  You're very kind.

Neil Diamond, Stevie Nicks era Fleetwood Mac, Heart, George Michaels

Neil Diamond...gotta love the greatest lounge singer of our time.

Stevie Nicks era Fleetwood Mac...a great band; Lindsay Buckingham continues to be one of my favorite guitarists, and asides from the occasional sap from Christie McVie, a great group of songwriters

Heart...Barracuda is up there as one of the most memorable and kickass guitar riff songs out there...right up there with the Rollins Stones' Satisfaction.

George Michaels...well, um...yeah, that's embarrassing... :nono:

Yanni? Does that count?

I sorta like some of his stuff. They are like commercial jingles taken to the Nth degree, not really songs, or works, but glorified jingles, heavily embellished, and it works. Usually.

How bout "Opera Babes." The backing tracks were so well produced, I sampled the album, removed the vocal tracks, so I guess that doesnt count. It became a studio album with really good British studio musicians.

I think Yanni is close enough.  John Tesh would have no qualification issues though.  Too bad there's not a vomit emoticon...

For me it's got to be funky platforms and space ships - Parliament 8)

Six little ducks that I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with a quack quack quack
Quack quack quack; quack quack quack;
He led the others with a quack quack quack

 Lovely lyrics. I'm in tears.

Not only is P-Funk not embarrassing, but they are the pivotal band in the anals of funk history.  THE WORST EXAMPLE ON THIS THREAD THUS FAR, which says quite a bit about the strength of your music taste, Ohenry. 8)

There's nothing anal about Parliament's performances. George Clinton is the only grown man that looks GOOD in diapers and pink hair :!: dreads and knee socks...

Mike, I think it's more an example of how diverse a crowd we have here.  Imagine an older gentleman who wakes up in the morning in his canopy bed.  His butler brings his morning tea and helps him dress.  He is escorted to the carport, where his driver has taken out the Bentley to take him to the country club.  His day is spent playing croquet, lunching with his fellow aristocrats, and wowing the ladies with his knowledge of wines from a small southern province of France.  As the evening approaches, he returns home to a quartet of violins playing Shubert's "The Trout", and dines on a mix of foie gras and caviar.  His butler helps him dress down to his pajamas and silk robe, and takes him to his library, lined with classic novels and one-of-a-kind rarities.  He tells his butler that he is fine for the evening.  As the butler departs, he walks over to his audio system; a vintage 2-channel setup consisting of a pair of 300B monoblocks, glowing with the light on his rare Western Electric tubes and his $80K Rockport turntable.  He looks over his left shoulder.  Then his right shoulder.  He is alone.  Sets the tone-arm down...cranks the volume and starts shaking his bootie to "Dr. Funkenstein's Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication Medley"...

I suppose you could take my comment in the worst way if that's your choice.   Thanks for not throwing in something about me being racist for naming the only african american band.

I was in college when that music was king and drank and danced myself into oblivion many nights listening to George Clinton.  How many Clinton, Parliament/Funkadelic albums (vinyl of course) do you own, white boy?  The strength of my musical taste indeed.

My reference was complimentary to the band in my own way, you see it's hard to take pokes from my 50-something year old friends (black and white) who don't get it.  That's my reason for being a semi-closet funkster.

PhilNYC was on track with his assessment.  Sorry to have struck any nerves out there. :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:

P.S. I took the thread to be about embarassment, not about music quality.

Mike was just saying that there's no reason to be embarrassed for liking P-Funk (and this thread is about music to be embarrassed for liking)...and that most people he knows would be embarrassed for *not* liking P-Funk... 8)

Embarrassed by The Cure, you might want to have your head examined. They're only one of the most influential bands of the last 25 years.

On to my choices: Milli Vanilli, WASP, Corey Feldman.
