Charney Audio - Concerto

Hello gents,
I don’t normally post outside of my forum these days, but I thought that this was worth bringing to the larger community. Last year I met one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in this hobby, Brian Charney. I don’t wanna get into too many details here but suffice to say him and I hit it off and we’ve been working together at shows as well as as on designs. Here’s some stuff I wrote in that regard. https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=191204.0 https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=191540.0

Needless to say, I fallen in love with his speakers.

Well a few weeks back Brian and I struck a deal and I’ll be receiving a pair of Concertos tomorrow.

Note:the boxes for these speakers according to the shipping company are 400lbs! The speakers themselves are a mere 50lbs each!

Here’s the link for the description: http://www.charneyaudio.com/the-concerto.html
Quick specs:
Tractrix horn design
Single 8” driver
105 dB 1W/1M
Bass down to 20Hz

I spent the better part of last week updating my audio room to accommodate horn style speakers. The biggest change is the front of the room. I covered the first 4 ft with Pergo style hardwood flooring. This should allow for the best bass response out of the Concertos.

I am expecting delivery on them tomorrow so more to come!  :thumb:

Congratulations 105dB are a great efficiency to use a sweet small tube amp  :thumb:

However for less cost I would have pickup the Frugal Horn new version for larger drivers which I cant remember the name, made by Scottmoose to  Dave Planet10.

Concertos are in the house!!! Err… garage…

400lbs box apparently according to the delivery company.

Size comparison with my hand.

These cabinets are just short of 7’ tall. It was a pain in the ass to get the lid off the box but I managed. I’ll need a second set of hands to move these into the house. For now, they’ll live in the garage. It’s rainy today so probably for the best that I don’t try bringing them in.

105 is great for literally anything. 45s even! I’ll be playing with different amps soon.

As far as other companies go, I’ll be blunt- Charney Audio is the best Speaker company on planet earth right now. I’m not going single driver full range because I like this style speaker (in fact prior to Charney I found the format unlistenable.), I’m doing it because Charney speakers have taken an impossible task and made it real. No other company is even close. These speakers produce incredible bass, and next tier realism. Tractrix horn is the future of this industry imo. Anything with parallel walls can’t touch what these speakers are capable of.

Can’t wait to get these setup.

Which driver did you get?

What power amp will you be running?
