AMG STA stability into 2 ohm load
« on: 5 May 2025, 06:21 am »
I am planning to drive Wilson Sabrina's with an AMG STA.  I believe these speakers dip to 3.2 ohms, will that be an issue for the AMG STA?
Cheers,
Sid

Hi Sid
I use the STA to drive my Gauder DARC 60 which go down below 3 ohm as well. The amp has no problem with this and sounds great with them - I have not heard it paired with Sabrinas though…. Chris

Jason will hopefully weigh in but I can add that I never had a problem driving my M4 Sapphires that, near as I can tell, have a 3 ohm excursion somewhere south of 100 hz. That said, I’m guessing the answer depends on how loud you listen and where the dip occurs.

The issue is over-current protection.  If the load is 2 ohm and some speakers require high current, then the amp could temporarily shut down due to over-current protection.
In most cases it will be ok.  3 ohm is ok.
