Where are all the OG Omega people at?
« on: 10 Apr 2025, 02:42 pm »
I have been out of the two channel game for about 3 years now. When I stopped visiting this site this forum was hopping! What happened to it? It is like a ghost town now. I miss my fellow Omega friends. I started a thread on the Omega DynaTen and thought I would have a lot of responses, I got one. Let's get this party started again! Looking through the different posts though, does not look like a lot of interaction going on.  :(

OG?

My Omega SAM-HO and Rythmic mid-woofer combo is still my daily driver after six years.  Such stability makes new conversation sparse!

I did try a pair of Harbeth C7 XDs but they sounded fairly lifeless, though very even in freq response.

I recently found Focus Fidelity's calibration software: https://www.focusfidelity.com/.  It is so much more user friendly than REW.  It generates convolution files that can be used by player software.  I use Roon but it works with JRiver and HQPlayer.  It has made a world of difference in taming the sound.  I mean a big world of difference!

I think most are still here, we just enjoy listening to our Omegas more than talking about them.  I am interested to hearing how your Dynas end up sounding.

I realize this is an older thread. I just wanted to say those are beautiful speakers

Thank you!  I'm very proud of them.  A true collaboration between Louis and me.  He was so flexible and generous.

I'm not OG, but I did enjoy pstrisik's journey, and was inspired by it. I went through a Dennis Had Inspire and then a First Watt J2, and landed with a Pass Aleph 5 for my Super 8 HO monitors. I have a REL T5x sub for support duties. I've loved the system for a while, but I don't post often. Most recently I gave this system a Denon turntable (3000) with a Denon 103R cartridge and a first gen Herron phono preamp. Frankly, now that I mention it, I am going to turn it on. It'll be warming up for about 45-60 minutes while I kick around the internet.
Best to everyone.

Beautiful finish on those monitors!

Speaking of OG, I now realize I've been in the Omega world for more than 10 years now.  I even have the honor of originating the SAM, SAM-HO, and CAM acronyms in 2015!  :eyebrows:

pstrisik, it seems that Focus Fidelity would really help my room & system, but I am not strong with computers.  Based on your experience, is this software appropriate for someone with average computer skills?

Not to be a stick in the mud and maybe I missed it, but I'm still waiting for any comments on the 2-way Dyna 10. Just a single cap xover and 91 db efficiency would seem to make it a solid winner. But

The site say only 90dB/8Ω what will need 100W Solid State.
Iam in the FR game because the cross-overless feature, so to me a sole cap or resistor in not a upgrade or desirable IMO.
But certainly is a great upgrade for those audiophiles coming from a commercial two way speakers with a regular cross-over.

Said it, the Dyna 8XRS is way more convenient to small amps at 98dB and yet have the benefit of single point source, no Tweeter and less price.
Junior 8XRS Specifications
Sensitivity: 98 dB at 8 ohms
Impedance: 8 ohms
Driver: Proprietary Omega RS8 Full-Range with ferrite magnet
Frequency Response: 38-20kHz
Dimensions: 38"H x 12"W x 7"D
Weight: 35 lbs. each in a shipping box
Power Requirements: as little as 2 watts
Crossover: None

If you have not bought yet the Dyna 10, I would recommend the Dyna 8, unless you have 100W and prefer the 10'' woofer IMO.
