CA1 or SET 120 for mmg’s
« on: 10 Apr 2025, 11:38 am »
I’m trying to decide between these 2 integrateds for my mmg’s.
I listen to jazz on vinyl in a 10’x 28’ room. AR XB turntable Shure M75ED Type 2.
The SET 120 doubles its power into a 4 ohm load. I don’t thinks the CA1 doubles power into
4 ohms. The 120 seems to have the higher current. I’m currently using a Nakamichi 410/420.
I would like to try something different. I never had any AVA equipment.

Thanks

Go with the 120.  Maggies love current and power.  I own the 1.6's and the original MMG's.

I have both and used the SET 120 with LRS’s. It’s really very good … even the bass

AlbertD,

We actually do have the specs listed on our website. I copied this for you:

Power output: 55 watts per channel into 8Ω. 85 watts per channel into 4Ω.

I have the 120 and can attest that it punches above it's weight, but on the other hand the new CA1 has a phono preamp which can be an blessing or a curse depending on your attitude towards phono preamps being in the same box. Also, there's a remote control unlike the 120,which is nice if you're the type that changes volume a lot during listening. If it were me I'd probably get the 120 because there a bit more power, although it wouldn't appear that 5 more wpc would make a very big difference.
