WTL is Well Tempered Labs. I don’t recall ever seeing a custom plinth but I would wager someone has made one.
I could suggest 20 or 30mm in HDF or acrílic.Acrílic dont need paint.
I was thinking more along the lines of veneer rather than paint.
If you dont mind the corners finish it could a inexpensive option. Or you could made an effort and buy a real wood table. YMMV.
The plan is to use birch ply layers for a height of 125 - 150mm.
I sandwiched Baltic Birch, MDF, lead, and baltic birch. I drilled concentric 1/2" holes through the bottom three layers and filled with lead shot, then sandwiched and glued it all together. Then finished it out in a Zebrawood veneer. It holds a Technics SP-10II that is my mono rig.
I was thinking of sandwiching the ply, mdf and acrylic...
I would substitute Richlite for the acrylic, the material is very dense and naturally non-resonant. Richlite is made from layers of recycled cardboard or cellulose fiber and phenolic resin.Look for sink cutouts from countertop installers otherwise it can get expensive. Cutting Richlite requires a triple chip blade and a really powerful table saw, I used my 5hp, 3 phase, 12" Powermatic and it was slow going.
... except for needing professional tools to cut it. That kinda makes it useless for the bulk of us.
