Tweeter for my project
« on: 31 Mar 2025, 09:07 pm »
Hello everyone,
i'm designing my own speaker but I've reached a dead end for the choice of tweeter.
I've used the top series of scan-speak and SBAcoustics, mostly scan-speak, SB is a newer brand.
Lately I've used the sagtori tw29rn for another project with excellent results better than some scan-speak that sometimes are over the top.

I would be very attracted by the satori tw29dn but also by the scan-speak D6620 (illuminator).

Has anyone used them...or used the satori series comparing it with the top scan-speak series?
When listening, what differences have you noticed for the two brands?

Thank a lot

What is your wide-band driver?

I think you are in the wrong circle.

Forget tweeters unless you have Batman ears.
You could use an Visaton B200 in a 100L Sealed box or the Lii Song F15 in the recomended 300L BR box.

But if you make question expend cash in xover and tweeters use an Coaxial from Beyma or Morel.

If you are in 2/3ways speakers because of the bass/woofer you can use a pair of active subs with the Lii Audio F15, and yet keep the crossoverless benefit.

Tie for a bump I guess since it's been moved ;)

I like the 7100 but really doubt you can get much useful from an opinoin poll.

I added a ambience tweeter to my speakers and a friend loaned me his $50 Jupiter caps.  Made a nice improvement but couldn't justify the price on $20 tweeters.  But on your project should be a no-brainer.

thank you very much for your feedback on the D7100, but if you can, could you specify why you liked it, what other tweeters you compared it to, thanks.

I wonder if anyone in this forum has also tried the SATORI TW29DN....

Personal taste on speakers vary on each person, so I would suggest the widest dispersion tweeter you can find. They are nice at 160° degrees.

in my experience i have found that tweeters with a high dispersion are not always good in domestic environments precisely because of the diffractive effects at the edges.

...then you who use fullranges, they have not exactly wide dispersion you say, but thay sound also good

Don't know if this helps. It talks about the tweeter you are looking at.

I actually have a pair of the tweeters that you are asking about but haven’t had a chance to play with them yet. I would also consider the Bliesma tweeters, which I’m currently using, and I see the long awaited Purifi tweeter has just been released.

Good luck,

Don

I have SB tw29rn and the original tw29r. They are dimple dome so the center of the dome is glued down, preventing center of dome resonance and reducing distortion. I love the way they sound, almost like rigid dome but gentler and very musical but still tons of bite and detail. I got the neo version bc I needed more sensitivity for a 8" high sensitivity woofer but the neo tw29rn still couldn't play low or loud enough for the 8". So I got SEAS T35 instead. I doubt that will have same ultra clean sound as the Satori.

The tw29dn looks to be identical to tw29rn except for no dimple. So there is more displacement from the whole diaphragm  pumping air so it goes a little deeper and louder at the bottom of range. But this comes at the price of less diaphragm control at high freqs. If you are tone nut like me and need precision high end I would stick with dimple.

I've heard the 3004/6620 illuminator on Selah speakers. It sounded good but the steep passive xo held it back IMO. One tweeter did eventually fail with coil rubbing and was replaced with RAAL ribbon upgrade and active deqx crossover, which was one of the best speakers I ever heard, thanks to member Rob S. But the 6620 tweeter was easily repaired by retightening the back screws. I doubt the 6620 sounds 30% better than the SB for the 30% higher price.
