Oh OK. How do they compare? Was it plug and play. Just wondering. Were you driving them hard?

They are the original Aegirs, I actually prefer the original Aegir to the new ones.
I can’t afford the Valhalla, but I’m feeling a whole lot better about an Aegir driving my M4s  :D

I like the new tweeter better, it's smoother and more open sounding. Clayton mounted it to thw M100 faceplate and attatched banana jacks to it. Since I still have a pair of the m100 its easy for me to compare

Guys. Here's a shot of the original M6 crossover and the new one. Keep in mind the original one was "Function over Fashion" but the new crossover is a Thing of Beauty! The placement of the capacitors (having all the text facing up/same) really is a nice touch. It speaks volumes of a high quality of workmanship! It's more than a pretty picture too. The materials used to house the crossover have also been updated. These are HIGH quality parts!  Some people say speakers are the most important component in our systems! I say the front end :)  Its a two way street for sure. I cannot wait to put them through the paces. Haydn-Mozart-Vivaldi-Satriani-Buckethead :) This is really, really a big deal! for M series owners!

Definitely man, the Aegir is an awesome amp! Beautiful midrange tone for sure. Also by the way Allan some more bass traps in your room could help with the stage. I would add at least 4 more, two more in either corner on top of the other 2. Then 2 in the corner next to your couch. Then get rid of those skinny panels and get 4 inch panels as those will actually be able to absorb Bass. That should really go along way to cleaning up some modes and shouldn’t over dampen your room. I would also suggest taking a good long look at your M4s, Clayton made them a 2 way and for that size of speaker (and crossover region about 900hz) you get some lobing happening in your lower and heart of mid range. It gives them a real nice muscular sound but it destroys proper imaging and staging in that mid region. Before I made my M4 a 2 1/2 way it drove me up a wall.

Absolutely gorgeous Dave! I’m excited for you, you’re gonna love them. I was absolutely shocked when I heard mine I’m sure you will be too. Soon I’ll get the rest of my mundorf ultra resistors (they’re in the mail) and I’ll be able to put my crossover in its forever home like you have. I was talking with David and with how much of an improvement these are to the Sapphires he wants to make them available for people to upgrade their M series speakers. Anyone wanting a major leap forward in performance from their M series I couldn’t recommend it enough.

I'm extremely excited. They "Spatial" are choosing baller parts :) Listening to mostly classical, I didn't want to cross a line and get too greedy on detail retrieval! It HAS to be capable of listening to different genre's. We can have the best of both worlds, and Spatial definitely recognizes that. I did have a choice for an even more forgiving crossover, but chose a more cutting edge one :) Cloud, the Jute rug is MASSIVE! If a rug has a rubber back or even too tightly woven (just talk into the backing) (test-test) do that to drywall and different surfaces to get a feel for the reflection. Jute will so reduce the floor that it pushes the entire sound to the front wall. It's bad ass! It makes the presentation even more polite (open baffle already does this in spades) but I've said this before. It's like the soundstage is a huge "Museum Diorama" Don't treat the ceiling. It'll raise the soundstage. It's sick.

Agreed a system needs to play all kinds of recordings well. You want a system that can show off good recordings, but not so analytical that your average recording sounds horrible. It’s a balance, just like audiophiles have to look at system synergy, designers have to look at synergy within components. Even with that said though there are other factors that comes into play, crossovers are inherently resonant structures. Finding the balance where you aren’t exciting those resonances created by the filter and driver can be very difficult especially because you often can’t see it in the measurements. And some drivers are much more difficult to work with, the sapphire tweeter being a great example. While it looks great on paper there are a lot of resonances within the driver that crossovers excite let alone the own resonances of the filter. We’ve made M100 sound all sorts of different ways over the years (including under Clayton, and all measuring linear) and I would say we haven’t cracked the full code until now. But man is it impressive, the things this tweeter can do yet at the same time it’s smooth and liquid sounding. I’ve only heard the SOTA tweeters do these things and even those, don’t have the utter lack of a sound that ceramic does.

I hissed into my rug to see and it didn’t hiss back so I think it’s good  lol. On a real note I got those rugs at Costco and they do a terrific job at absorption. And yes before I brought them home I 100% spoke into them to see how well they deadened my voice. The floor is by far the worst reflection point. It’s because the majority of time it’s too close in time for your brain to separate it as a reflection so it creates a smearing effect both in sound stage and detail and yes it can make things sharp to, especially with wide dispersion speakers. When I got the rugs it made my center image lock on with much better space around it along with softening my transients to a more natural degree. I’ll have to try one of the jute rugs like you suggest.

Unfortunately the X series never had a removable crossover and it was built into the baffles. So we aren’t able to easily switch to a new crossover. I don’t project there to be any upgrades to X series any time soon.

To be more specific, changing out the crossover on the X4 is easy. X3 and X5 not so much. Sam said that we can evaluate and provide an upgrade recommendation on X3 and X5 if we have a pair (or at least a single) for testing. We will be limited due to space within the existing baffle or maybe we come up with an external crossover that works and is visually acceptable.

Also, there were some variants with the drivers depending on when the speakers were manufactured. Anything that we develop for one model isn't guaranteed to work with every other. (There will be questions) For example, the set of M3s we have uses different woofers than the set that Ryan has. Since we have access to both, we can look for ways to improve both of these variants.

As we do more of these upgrades, we will put them on the website. Over time and with the assistance of passionate customers, we should be able to develop a standardized replacement for a number of models with specifics to ensure compatibility.

I would love to have a crossover upgrade option for my M3 Turbo S.

I'm sure a lot of others would as well.

I'll assume you mean me, whether big or pig :icon_lol:  I am doing well, thank you, and enjoying my latest acquisition.  Yesterday I got the Kinki/Vinshine Tai Hang Power Enhancer.  My Schiit Yggy OG, Don Sachs Line Stage and Schiit Tyrs are plugged into it.  I am very impressed with the increased clarity (more detail) and attack.

Thanks for your thoughts Cloud.  I truly appreciate it.  I am conflicted about absorption vs diffusion as they seem to be two camps.  I can’t spend too much time on it at the moment but def want to come back this and dig into the crossover conversation. Intriguing… Great conversation!
