The CSS demo room 452 at AXPONA 2025 will have an AB demo of two pairs of 3-TDX speakers.

One is the standard 3-TDX speaker with the passive crossover.

Two is the 3-TDX speaker fully active triamped with the Danville Signal dspNexus and Orchard Audio Starkrimson Premium Monoblocks.

The DSP crossover design was a HAL collaboration for the fully active system.

Hope to see folks for some listening at AXPONA 2025.

HAL,

I'm unable to attend, but I am curious about what you're doing. Are the amps and dspNexus inside the speaker cabinets or are they housed in one or more external cabinets/cases? Can you post a photo, so I can see how it's set up?

Regards,

Michael

Michael,

The CSS 3-TDX speakers have terminals to each driver on the back for the active version.  The dspNexus 2/8 and Starkrimson Premier amps are external as normal audio gear.

This is a picture of the setup while they were testing the DSP crossover design.  The blue pair are the active speakers.

Thank you.

I hope someone who hears both speakers posts their impressions here.

I have been thinking for a long time that it would be a great idea to combine Orchard Audio class D power amps with a good tube preamp.

I have a lot of customers doing this.

How did this go? Did anyone here attend? I was going to be there but my wife had broke her foot. So we couldn't attend. Now I really wish I could have. I have three way active speakers with amazing drivers. SB Acoustics Textreme drivers. I am now using an analog Sublime Acoustics Kt235 and it sounds really good. But I can't tweek it like I could with a DSP unit. The cabinet is angled so the drivers are supposed to be on even plane so as to time align them. But I am sure it's not perfect. Any feedback on this system would help.

Why pollute the clean, low distortion performance of the Orchard? Like putting square wheels on a Porsche. Better to use dsp to add a controlled amount of distortion to taste rather than just dumping an indiscriminate amount.

I'm not sure if it's your intention to sound like an aggressive jerk here.  But you do.
