I used to love Hifiman headphones back in the day. Owned several sets in the early days, HE-6, HE5 LE, HE-4, and some others. Then came the original HE-1000 which I thought sounded brilliant. However it was all downhill from there.HE-1000 had to be replaced 3 times due to driver failure and other issues. Thankfully Hifiman was decent with support, although it took a lot more work than it should have based on the circumstances. After that I dabbled with a few others and felt that the build quality or potential reliability was going in the wrong direction. Not to mention their crazy release schedule which totally decimates the resale value for existing owners. Now that I see them doing this "unveiled" design scheme, it makes me that much more nervous. If ever there was a brand who should not completely expose their drivers, it is Hifiman. I bet they do sound pretty nice but there's no way I would trust that company with a design like that and expect it to give me years worth of enjoyment.
Thankyou for your first hand report. For this there is a lot of refurbished and open box models on the HifiMan site.A thing ridiculous at HifiMan are his silly names for the phones.
