Hi Bryston amp owner here.  Is there really any real difference between the two amps in the subject line?

Hi Bob

THX requires an amplifier gain of 29dB ONLY.
Also has to meet noise floor and distortion specs.
5 year Warranty.

The Bryston amp is the same except that it has an adjustable gain.
20 Year warranty.

best

James, thank you for responding to my question.  You have always been most helpful when I've posted on these and other boards over the years.  When I look at the back of the amplifiers the only difference I see is one amp has THX decals on the modules and the other doesn't.  They both have all the same switches on the modules.  When you speak of gain you mean the sensitivity switch correct.  The THX unit also has the sensitivity switch.  I would not have thought the modules on the THX unit would have this switch if the gain was only set at 29db. I do understand for your message the THX amp must meet noise floor and distortion specs.  I apologize for my ignorance if I'm missing understanding what you wrote:)

Yes the sensitivity switch.

It may have the switch on some units but the licensing stated it had to be 29DB to qualify as THX.

Thank you for the response.  Very helpful.  I have three of these Bryston 9BSST's in my theater systems.  The two shown in the pictures and I have a third in another bedroom system.  That one is a rack mount unit that stared out as a Pro model 9BST and I had your company upgrade it to a 9BSST.  That unit has an adjustment knob vs a 3 position switch for adjusting gain.  I'm looking for another 9BSS2 right now.  I love these amps!!
