"Early Emerald Physics speakers were designed by Clayton Shaw (the CS series). He eventually sold the company to Walter Liederman (who at the time was an Emerald Physics dealer), so that he could focus on product development. Initially, Liederman was only a partial owner of the company but under the urging of Shaw, purchased complete control about six years ago." - Stereo Times

opnly bafld,

Here's a new picture I don't think you've seen. The F-15's sound lovely with a 2 watt Decware. Why do you not want to share pictures of your OB's? I'm especially interested in your line array featuring 8 Visaton B200's.

I decided I would order a W-15 Lii Audio bass woofer before the price went up and today I took delivery. It arrived in double boxes and my first impression is it's hellaciously heavy!!! I ordered a single because my friend Randle of Caintuck fame says one can/may be enough. To be honest it's so darn heavy I'm not sure I could handle two. A baffle to hold this monster could be a challenge but I may double up the unused  3/4" F-15 flat baffles after I cut them down to size. Stay tuned as this is not a project for the faint of heart.

If you are going to use crossover could try the W21.

I'll probably use a plate amp but have a couple of other options.

I've seen several builds with the F-15 and W-15 in the same baffle but no one mentions weight. I won't be doing that as the weight would be crazy heavy. I like to move my OB's around and try different placements or move them back against wall when not in use.

I just realized the W21 is a bass woofer. At 66 lbs there's no way I could mount that monster.

I finally mounted the beast in it's own baffle. To get a decent amount of support I went with two 3/4" plywood panels glued together. It's so difficult to lift and move around, it rides on a moving dolly from Harbor freight.

Nice.  And the bass achieved is worth the price and effort?  Or do you really need two of them.

One is all I need. I would guess my two Alphas might reach 40hz but the W-15 nicely fills out the lower octaves. A kick drum never sounded or "felt" like this before. I listen to mostly jazz but what the W-15 adds to Tool's "Chocolate Chip Trip" is down right amazing.

I front mounted the W-15 as it provides more material to support the weight. Flush or recessed mounting would reduce the thickness of the baffle thereby increasing weighted stress. It's common practice I know but I don't see how it would be ideal.

I prefer front mounted also, no sound diference from flush.

I'm currently using my Bottle Head preamp in an other system so I switched to the new Fosi ZP3 preamp and it works so well it may stay indefinitely. With its two pair of outputs the Fosi allows bi-amping driving the 2a3 SET mono blocks amps for the F-15 and an Aiyima A07 ( via Fmods X-over ) amp for the Alphas. The sub out on the ZP3 sends the signal to a 300 watt Yung plate amp powering the W-15. My two sources are a Wiim streaming to a Fosi ZD3 DAC with Sparkos op amps and a Marantz SACD player.

Nice setup. It looks like on the specs of the W-15, that if you used both coils (wired in parallel to get a 4 ohm load), you would get a higher sensitivity and the full output of the plate amp. Have you tried this?

The W-15 is 91.3 dbs using a single voice coil and 95.6 using dual voice coils. The Yung SD300 class D is rated at 300 watts into 4 ohms and half that into 8 ohms. I would certainly gain power with using dual coils but do I need more power? I plan to compare the two options and see. Randy of Caintuck uses a 100 watt plate amp to drive his single W-15.

I've read that when connecting only one VC the Qts is doubled to 1.58.

FWIW I also tried an Aiyima A3001 which is a mono sub amp ( 36v PSU ) and liked that combination driving the W-15. It was less than half the price of the Yung. With the Yung driving a single coil of the W-15 it's volume control seems ideal at 10 o'clock for normal listening levels.
