Yeah, surge protection often really eats up dynamics.
Just a comment in the interests of accuracy: Shunyata Research power distributors, which also provide surge protection, are specifically designed NOT to do this.
A key functional reason for this is their Dynamic Transient Current Delivery (DTCD) technology, which is implemented very effectively in all their power products, including their power cords and power distributors, is described at the link below. Scroll down to the DTCD section on the web page linked here:
https://shunyata.com/technology/, and you can see the DTCD data on the graphs at the bottom of the page below the DTCD technology description.
In point of fact, Shunyata's DTCD technology actually
improves system dynamics considerably, while also reducing AC mains noise
considerably. Here is a YouTube video by Caelin Gabriel of Shunyata Research, describing DTCD technology:
https://youtu.be/M-xkQZ4qlDc?si=ShZIm1c5-uNu-wFTAlso, the entry-level Gemini (which also provides ground-plane noise reduction), as well the more affordable Venom V16 and Hydra spec power distributors, will also provide
significant benefits with respect to improving your system dynamics, as well, because they also provide DTCD capability.
Bottom-line is: Want take your system and musical presentation dynamics, and dynamic responsiveness to
another level altogether, all while reducing AC mains noise? Install a Shunyata Research power distributor and power cords for powering your system components. Your system will be considerably quieter while also more dynamic and responsive as well as sounding much more accurate, natural, and musically-engaging.
Trust me on this one. I've done this demo in-person for many, many audio buddies, and they all end up purchasing a Shunyata Research power distributor.
PS: BTW, that was also me that posted the comment in Ron's YT channel and his NRD YT live-stream last night about getting the speaker cables up off the floor. Glad to see you took up my suggestion and tried it and heard the improvements to be had. I also learned about the importance of this from the guys at Shunyata.
Cheers and have a great day.
