"Skipping"/"Clipping" in streaming from Qobuz on BR-20

Hello, Folks.

I have noticed an unexpected playback issue in playback of music on my BR-20 when using it to stream from Qobuz (I’m currently on a trial subscription).

There are “skips” in playback during certain songs.  Each skip is a fraction of a second, but noticeable.  As an example, if the word “syllable” were part of a song’s lyrics, it would become “syll-ble”.  The “clipped” portions are in the exact same spot on given songs.  There is no apparent pattern to when this clipping/skipping occurs.  A song or piece of music will have the same skip (in the same place) on every playback, regardless of day or time of day.

There are no irregularities with my Internet connection.  The BR–20 is on a wired connection into the appropriate port, and I use the Manic Moose interface to log into Qobuz (automatic since my information is entered into the settings).

The skips do not occur when using Qobuz’s web player interface on my computer, which is on the same wired connection as is the BR-20.  Neither do the skips occur with wireless connections from a laptop or mobile devices when using Qobuz’s web player interface (the wireless connections are on the same router as are the wired connections).

This issue seems to be confined to when I get to Qobuz through Manic Moose on the BR-20, regardless of device (computer, mobile) or type of connection (wired or wireless).

Has anyone an idea as to why I this might be happening?

Examples of songs that get fractions of a second “clipped”:

1.  Allègre (song name), Claude Bolling & Maurice André — Bolling: Toot Suite (album); “clip” occurs at the 13- to 14-second mark.

2.  Signed, Sealed, Delivered (song name), Stevie Wonder — Signed Sealed And Delivered; “clip” occurs at the 20- to 21-second mark, on the word “Baby”.

3.  Living in the Past (song); Jethro Tull — Living in the Past; “clip” occurs at the 12- to 13-second mark.

4.  You Are the Woman (song); Firefall — The Complete Atlantic Albums; “clip” occurs at the 21- to 22-second mark

5.  Same song as above (in item 4): You Are the Woman (song); Firefall — Firefall; clip occurs in identical location (21- to 22-second mark).  Perhaps is the same file (?).

6.  Chico And The Man (Main Theme) (song); José Feliciano — Light My Fire: The Very Best Of José Feliciano; “clip” occurs at the 12- to 13-second mark.  The clipped instance may not be immediately apparent if you’re not familiar with the song.

7.  Coat of Many Colors (song); Emmylou Harris — Songbird: Rare Tracks & Forgotten Gems; “clip occurs at the 12- to 13-second mark (almost to 14 seconds).

8.  Hispanic Dance (composition); The Robin Hill Quartet — Concerto for Classic Guitar & Jazz Piano Trio [Claude Bolling composer]; clip occurs at the 23- to 24-second mark.

I thought it might be helpful to mention specific songs in which this issue arises.

Hi Ilkatze & others,

I came across this post aftter searching for ‘skipping streaming’.

I too recognize some of the issues that you’ve raised.  I have occasionally came across small skipped parts of mucis tracks. Mostly in the first few seconds of a song. I never paiad much attention to it because I thought it could be related to my internet connection (which should be quite good by accounts of the hardware and the attention paid to cabling.

What really struck me from your post was that the clipping always seems to occur in the first 24 seconds of a song.

I had an recurring issue with a song were it just stopped playing after 22 seconds. It was the rather impressive (demo-)track ‘ Make us Stronger’ by Ghostrider. I could simply not get it to play beyond that point no matter what I tried. Reloading the track, logging off from Qobuz and logging in, restarting my DBA3.14 etc…..  Nothing helped.

What finally sorted this specific issue was setting the BDA3.14 back to default settings. The track played fully and without a problem.

Mission accomplished I thought.

Until last night I loaded a new to me album after coming across someone who recommended on facebook. The full album was loaded in my Manic Moose playlist and I left the room for a while while it played.  After returning to the room, I wanted to play the specific track that was recommended by the facebook user. When I hit the track in the Manic Moose playlist it started to play but it was cutoff at around 13 seconds! There was the same issue I had earlier. Today I loaded the samen album again (Jacob Gurevitsch - Lovers in Paris; track 7 ‘Secret Sorrows’. It stops playing after exactly 13 seconds again. I suppose I can try to fix the issue again by resetting the streamer to it’s default setting (and perhaps staying at default will prevent the issue, I have to find out).

I have another strange issue with Manic Moose but I will save that for later.   :o

Hi

I just got a new DAC yesterday and I am experiencing the EXACT same issues with 1 sec dropouts as well. I literally have only heard about 20 songs with my new DAC and 2 songs are showing EXACT issues either on Tidal or Qobuz. Which leads me to think that maybe my DAC is extremely sensitive to micro errors with the FLAC files?? My previous dac ignored the errors it seems.

When using Tidal or Qobuz...Jeff Beck from the album There and Back...song is called "You Never Know". The first 14 seconds the sound is going in and out. Track 2.. YES.. from the 2014 24/96 release 90125 album. The opening track..."Owner of a Lonely Heart" at 16sec there is a drop in sound. I can load 10 of the same tracks on my playlist and it will skip at the same spot. I rebooted everything...and still have the issues.

BTW I will have a listen to some of the tracks you have listed above and see if I am experiencing this issue as well. Please take a listen to those tracks I have listed if you don't mind. :) I will report back!

I am using AES digital cable from streamer to dac.

As suggested, using the ‘ Reset to Factory’ under ‘ System resetting the streamer/dac or Manic Moose software (?) solved my problem again. No more bitrate displaying for me I guess.

Could it be possible that Qobuzˋ cache file is replaying corrupted files each time you select it/them from your BR20?  To be sure, and if you havenˋt already, log into your account in Qobuz on the Web and delete the cache.  This worked for me.
Cheers,
Barry

Probably best to ignore my previous post, for the most part.
Sorry,
