He upgraded my 1973 Dynaco AF-6 (AM/FM) tuner into a Jensens Super Tuner 2 (FM) which is still in my stereo system; and upgraded my Dynaco PAT-5 preamplifier into a Super FET-5 Mk. II D preamplifier, the first of many upgrades to it. We go way back. I guess I could say he was the inspiration for me to be an audiophile music lover. I'll miss him, knowing he is no longer around AVA.

Wow I'm shocked and saddened. I purchased a RB preamp a number of years ago and spoke to Frank a number of times. He will be greatly missed! :icon_frown: :icon_frown: :(

Deepest sympathies to Frank's family, friends, and coworkers.  Those three categories always overlapped with Frank, such a warm and considerate person that everyone he met was treated as a friend.  Although not a customer I met him a few times and it was always a pleasure.  He'll be missed.

So sorry for Frank's family and his AVA family.  He taught everyone that you don't have to have fancy capacitors and fancy cases to have fantastic sound.

Hopefully for everyone that worked with Frank, AVA will be able to carry on and keep his memory alive....he will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Van Alstine's family and friends.  I did not meet him, but have been a follower of the company for many years, aspired to own many products, and when I did, always enjoyed them.  His openness and generosity, in Audio Basics and especially this forum, was nearly unique in this industry.  His support of older, second-hand, and discontinued products was an example of this generosity.

I hope that the memories of those close to him will keep him alive in your minds and hearts, and will be a comfort in this difficult time.

Extremely sad news. I've been an AVA customer since the mid-eighties, and occasionally a contributor. I met Frank at an audio meet in Cherry Hill, NJ. in 1988. I hoped to go to MN to his shop and see the operation but never seemed to get the opportunity due to work/life issues. I regret not making the effort. Condolences to Frank's family and all past and current AVA employees. He will be missed. Please keep Frank's dream alive!

Sincere condolences to Frank's extended family.

I have only known about Frank and AVA HiFi for about 2 years.  I purchased a pair of M750s and had a few questions when installed in my system.  Mary set up a call with Frank who was kind and informative and patient with me and my questions. Truly exceptional customer service! He obviously had a passion for his products and serving his customers.

There is much to celebrate from Frank's life.

Peace,
Scott

Condolences to Frank's family and AVA team. A champion until the end. Met Frank at his home/shop just before Christmas,1989 to pick up an amp and preamp. I remember meeting his wife and  his daughter who was studying Engineering at that time. The shop was so cool. Frank set up my amp and preamp with some B&W's that he used to sell at the time. He asked me if I liked jazz for the maiden listening session. Then he turned the system on and we sat back and listened for at least a 1/2 hour - all the while Frank had a smile on his face. Because he knew what was happening was special. Then Mrs. Van
Alstine brought out some fresh baked cookies. We had a snack. Talked a bit, then I left with my new gear. So much joy and satisfaction from using AVA gear for me, my family and friends. Rest in peace does not fit here but, rest in peace Frank. And thank you.

I'm filled with gratitude for the many years of joy and pleasure derived from AVA products; grateful for Frank and the spirit he put into life.  My sincere condolences to those who were close to Frank.  I pray you take comfort in knowing how he lived and the impact he had on so many.  God bless you in your time of loss, and as you move forward.

In the late 1970's I sold audio for a few years.  I remember my boss, coming back from CES, and talking about a guy named Van Alstine.  I built a Dynakit PAS3X and many years later investigated Frank's upgrade kit.  Long story short, there was a sale and I bought a Van Alstine pre, which AVA upgraded a couple of times.  I still have and enjoy it.  Rest in peace Mr. V.  Maybe heaven needs some sound system upgrades.
