What do you use as speaker support bases?
« on: 13 Nov 2024, 05:23 pm »
Hello everyone

I have the Ulysses speakers resting on the bases as shown in the photo, everything seems very stable to me and the sound is correct and well presented, but I was wondering if it makes sense to place some object between the bases and the speakers that isolates and decouples, such as the Orea, in the Bordeaux version, for the weight of Ulysses
Some experience, suggestions, possibly with comments on differences compared to standard bases
thanks regards, Dario

I have a similar setup for my speakers. Originally, I had Herbie's big fat dots between the plinth and the speakers, but now there's nothing in between. I prefer nothing. I wouldn't recommend Oreas or other such devices because they will destabilize the speaker.

Hello
in what sense would they destabilize the other speakers?? Do you think that 4 Orea makes the speakers unstable when playing music? Or is it referring to the sound setting, i.e. would the sound setting change??

Why not try Lou’s speaker isolation devices under the spikes?

hello

I'm in Italy, it is not easy to obtain items from the USA, and the cost is also affected by transport duties and other things.
Do you still have a link to see Lou's isolation speakers??
thank you and have a good day

I'm getting 8 Orea Bordeaux, I'd like to try them under the Ulysses, to understand how the sound can change, I don't know if for the better or not. . .
It's not easy to find 8 to try, I got to 6, but they're not enough due to the weight of the speakers, maybe next week a friend will offer me 3 more and at that point I can evaluate them under the speakers!!
I will update you on music listening

Hi Dario, I'm not a specialist, but "GAIA Series" are designed for speakers."OREA Series" are designed for audio/video components.Again, I may be wrong.

Hi dpatters
I think what you write is correct, but the Gaia speakers cannot be screwed under the Ulysses speakers, unless you replace them with the tips under the bases, I don't know if it's a choice I would try. . .
However, I think that the operating principle is similar, given that they come from the same company, and between the approximately 50 kg Ulysses and their bases I don't know what else could be adapted to try to streamline the sound with the Gryphon, suggestions are very welcome

I watched the videos, the Orea are also suitable for speakers, as per the attached screen
I will try Bordeaux next week under the Ulysses, I will have 8 available, to understand what result is obtained which in general will be indicative of what to expect from the replacement of the fixed tips of the Ulysses bases with the Gaia II
Your experiences with decoupling Daedalus Audio, of whatever type, are welcome, thank you

I anticipate your results. I, personally, use the Daedalus outriggers, cones, and isolation devices. I am not interested in changing any of that.

As well, I really like the WyWires + Daedalus speaker cables.

What I used under my Muse speakers. They worked quite well on hardwood flooring.

HI
based on experiences gained over many, many years, I feel like predicting results is a bit of a gamble, perhaps we could update after the tests and you will tell me what I should have expected.
I understand that the configuration with the original accessories of the speakers is an excellent approach to a correct sound, but I have always tried to evaluate other opportunities, also to evaluate what I have and understand if there are margins for improvement, congruent with a balanced investment.
I had the WyVires cables, valid but not comparable in my opinion with the current Nordost Tyr 2 cables.
We often tend to evaluate certain tests and comparisons as superfluous, and cables are considered an accessory, I think they are in all respects the most important completion of an audio system, connecting electronics and speakers, without considering the quality of the current and its cleanliness, with possible loops or interference, and from the perspective of my test with the Orea under the speakers, I also want to understand how much the possible vibrations and the isolation of the speakers contribute to a quality sound, obviously always ready to go back if the result was poor or economically not supported by the improvement of the musical presentation, i.e. a simple sidegrade
Greetings , Dario
