I just picked up a Thorens 1601 TT and Hana Umami Blue MC cart. But I'm finding it difficult to choose a tonearm cable (RCA - RCA) to match. There's so much discussion about speaker wire, interconnects, power cables on the net, but comparatively little on tonearm cables. I'm surprised because I would think that cable in particular would be an important purchase. I'm currently using a Furutech AG-12 on a good old Micro-Seiki, lower end TT. But it's just time to upgrade the TT and the Thorens needs RCA-RCA and my current AG-12 phono cable is DIN-RCA.
I'm considering the following so far:
Audio Technica AT-TC1000RR
Tellurium Q Black II
Elf Custom AG24 OCC silver
Furutech AG-12 or AG-16
Zavfino Gold Rush Au/Ag gold coated OCC + solid pure silver
Stager Silver Solids
ZenSati Zorro Phono Cable
Crystal Clear Audio Studio Reference 2 or Magnum Opus 2
I'm looking for the best bang for the buck, obviously. I'm more into that magic golden sound with lots of detail, not too clinical, but really clear and clean. I have a mix of tubes and SS in a bi-amped system. The bi-amping in particular makes it sound much more direct. That's the connection I want to feel. My interconnects and speaker cable are mostly POCCOC (I think that's the initials...Ohno Continuous Copper...). I'm nervous about silver, I've heard it can be too hot on top, unless done right. I don't really understand the mechanics of it all. I don't want to buy "too much" cable for the set up I havae, but I'd like to get the full potential out of it. I think I could spend up to 1K or so. I've been building my system for years. I do it frugally and slowly and usually buy used, btw
Do you guys have suggestions?
