Highest Artist/Band Album Count In Your Collection?
« on: 24 Oct 2024, 10:31 pm »
Which artist/band represents your highest album count (including single track releases) in your music collection?

In my music collection, Octopus Diver at 78 albums is the top dog to date.

Be well...

  That's a lot, I don't think I can top that.
Okay, I'm not going to go through all my binders to do an accurate count, just me recollection. These are my largest collections that come to mind.
1. David Arkenstone- approximately 14 albums
2. Tangerine Dream- over 10
3. Gary Numan- Not a fan so much anymore as I was in the '80s, quite a few
4. Rush- over 10 albums

Indigo Girls by far.
Sara K next
After that nothing dominates, it's all very eclectic.  I end up loving one album, then buying another from the same artist and it's meh, lost the magic.  For example I have numerous copies of Dark Side of the Moon, one each of Wish You Were Here and Animals, them no other Pink Floyd albums.  And I rarely play anything but DSOTM.  A similar story with many other artists.  Yes, I'm weird, but it's led me to believe that musical artists have one of two great albums worth of ideas then go stale just mailing it in.  Springsteen, great first three albums, then fell off a cliff.  The same with Laura Nyro, James Taylor, The Beatles, the Stones, etc.

U2 and Journey by far but 95% of my collection was purchased during their heydays.  My preferences and intolerance for crappy recordings mean I can’t remember the last time I listened to either.

Easy for me to pull up, I just log into my database and put things in order. I am listing anything I have 10 of or more, see attached image.
David Bowie being the largest followed by Yello and Prince.

Probably Miles for main artist.  For total appearances as a bandleader AND on other peoples' albums, it isn't even close - Ron Carter by a mile.

Without actually counting I'd say it's probably led by albums by Steven Wilson (including PT). Possibly followed by Pat Metheny albums and maybe Weather Report or the Beatles next.

Obviously no Deadheads have bothered to respond here.  Somewhere around 250-300 official "albums" and several thousand unofficial concert recordings available; the last time I checked (some are only on disc, some on server, some both) I have over 500 albums and/or concert recordings that I listen to.

Rush

AC/DC

For downloaded albums, a tie at the top with Rush and Iron Maiden at 27, then David Bowie at 25. Usually when I download an artist, I try and find a flac discography torrent and if particular albums are really good I'll find some HiRes 24/192 flac or wav options.

For physical LP it would be Every Time I Die with 9, followed by Mars Volta with 8 then Between The Buried And Me with 7.

Highest number of discs (i.e., CD box set of 5 discs for one album, such as Complete Jack Johnson, counted as 5), and counted only as the leader, not as a side man, my top two are:
Miles Davis 75
John Coltrane 56
