Working on a less powerful Integrated given the success of the Bi-200 :thumb:

Hi James!

But you already had two less powerful integrated amps - the B60 and B135. Can you tell us more about the new amp? Is it still class A/B?

Hi

Yes the Bi-200 is pure analog and Class AB and uses the new balanced design in the BP-19 preamp section.

The Bi-101 is Class D in the amp section and uses the balanced BP-19 in the preamp section.

Hi James!

Thanks for the reply! Which class-D modules are you using?

Oh! That's interesting! What is the power output  you are looking at for the new amplifier, about 100Wpc into 8 Ohm?

I would also like to ask why suddenly a new 'low powered' amplifier (for a lack of a better word) when you already had one in your lineup but disconitinued it?

I liked Bryston's tradition of offering less powerful amplifiers and less complex preamplifiers at lower price points, rather than compromising sound quality like every other company has traditionally done. I'm very sad to see that change, unless I'm mistaken and there has been a very large breakthrough that has elevated class D to levels of performance never before imagined for that topology.

This will be an interesting development to follow.  I’m hardly the golden eared expert with massive experience comparing gear, but my limited experience and a lot of talk suggests well crafted class D can be magical.
I don’t think my experience and aural gifts are too far from the norm.  Given the increasing cost of high end gear, the emergence of quality, lower cost gear, shifting demographics, and cooling discretionary spending leaves room for Bryston and others to fill in lower cost tier gear.  Maybe it’s more than room.  Maybe it’s a business imperatives.

The B60 integrated just got to expensive for most people given the low power.

Sure, quality cannot come cheap. Well, I hope the new amplifier lives up to the very high standards set by the B60. I still think that's one of the greatest amplifiers of all time and regret not buying it while it was still in production.

All the best,
Antun
