I have an Amadeus and have used aluminum bodied 103's for years. (Zu and Midas bodies) I also use an aftermarket XTC heavy counterweight. Some have used both included counterweights as an option as well. I know we're talking Simplex here, but several years ago I remember a reviewer used a stock 103 on the Simplex with excellent results. Unfortunately, I can't find that review. FWIW, the first cartridge I used with the Amadeus was a Soundsmith moving iron. This produced excellent results as well. I can't think of two cartridges more vastly different in compliance, yet they both worked. This of course makes me think  (right or wrong) that the silicon damping design of the WT's has a lot to do with the arm's ability to adapt to a wide variety of cartridges. I think it's worth a shot, but it's probably not a bad idea to see if you can scour up a few more reviews before proceeding. Plus this is certainly far more tempting  if you already have a proper SUT or step up already in place.

A friend of mine uses a 103 on his Amadeus and it sounds great. It plays into a Lejonklou Entity. Just use the silicone cup height adjustment to dial in the sound. You’ll have no issues. He has other carts and always returns to the Denon.

It's more a matter of matching the cartridge to the phono preamp. The adjustable damping on the Simplex arm allows you to dial in more or less mechanical control to suit the cartridge's particular mass and compliance. It's done in tiny increments, by ear.. raising or lowering the fluid level relative to the ball/pivot. Too little damping and the presentation sounds thin and washed out. Too much and it will sound thick and dead. In the sweet spot.. it all comes together.

I'm about to buy Classic and would have transferred my Dal103 (which I loved) from my Rega P3, but dropped a record and bumped the cantilever out of alignment. Would have loved to hear the 2 together. Will have to wait now until I can get the DL103 repaired.
