Greetings. Just joined today.  I'm here because I'm finally positioning myself to have the media room I've always wanted and I plan to DIY my speakers using GR-Research kits, as well as any custom cabinetry/shelving/room treatment.
Looking forward to sharing my journey and giving/getting tips and advice from this community. Please be gentle  8)

Welcome from a fellow Texan.    :thumb:

When you're talking media room, are you mainly going for stereo music, or all out Home Theater?  7 of my 13 speakers (overkill, for sure - 7.4.6 Dolby ATMOS) and two of my four subs are GR Research with the subs and surrounds built by yours truly.   I lucked into some heavily upgraded X-Static and X-Voce speakers at a great price, so those I didn't have to build.

UUugh....I have media room envy now.   :duh:

I'm closing on my first home tomorrow morning.   I'll upload some pics of the space I have in mind.  And at this point, I'm just in the planning stages and there are a LOT of other things about my new house I want/need to spend money on, which is why I'm going to DIY as much as I can.

I plan to use this room mostly for watching movies and shows from my Plex media server via the Plex app on my Roku TV.  Currently I have a Denon receiver to drive speakers with, and coincidentally, am looking at a pair X-Static and an X-Voce and maybe later add sub(s).   Placement shouldn't be an issue as this room will be completely dedicated to the audio-video gear.

Depending on how accessible the rooms walls are from the attic space, I may do wiring drops for surround speakers but that's way down the road and not a priority.   I just want a good 2ch audio and  center channel for video, to get me started.
