Miller Audio Dyna-70 amp
« on: 30 Jul 2024, 02:06 am »
I just wanted to hop on here and talk about the Miller Audio amp that Danny talked about on YouTube recently.  I heard this amplifier at the LSAF last year in the Miller Audio room.  I had spent about a day and a half  at the fest which most of that was in the rooms of Mike Lundy and Bryan Miller.  I was in their rooms listening so much that they probably got tired of looking at me....lol.  I just want to reiterate what Danny said about this amp.  It is verrrryyy musical.  Out of all the rooms I enjoyed Bryan the most.  He didn't have the amp hooked up to uber expensive equipment either.  It was connected to a Akitika preamp, a Cambridge DAC,  and the speakers was the NX-Studio's with a Rhythmic servo sandbox sub.  Now don't get me wrong there was cleaner systems but that amp with those speakers just made me want to melt into the chair and listen for hours. Now with the studio's if you turned it up to loud they would clip but I imagine if you split off the base to some OB subs with a hi-pass filter that would help tremendously.  The only issue I had with the amp was the speaker connections looked cheesy as  Danny says but when they made a modification available for tube connectors that took care of that.  I was looking at Bryan's website and he has a more Dyna-120 I think it is called.  It has a bigger power supply and some other upgraded stuff.    I think if I had some NX-studio's this might be an even better match to give you that little bit of extra power.   I even think he has something in the works for a balanced version but all in all I just wanted to say this amp sounds really good.

Hey Brandon,

Hang out all you want. That's the point of the show. :thumb:

I agree also on the amp. This year Bryan teamed up with Norman Tracy and the Dyna-70 was driving Norman's LS-6 monitors.

I told Bryan at the show he was bound and determined to get me back into a tube power amp. He succeeded. He's going to be building me an amp I'll be pairing with Studio Monitors in a second system. Of course this means I now have to clean out another room to set up said second system.

I found out about Bryan Miller and his ST 70 version from a member of another forum. I had been doing quite a bit of research on all the various ST 70 mods, but was not aware of Bryan Miller. I ended up giving Bryan a call and we had quite a nice conversation. I told him that I did have a concern about the strip type binding posts and asked if standard binding posts could be put in. He indicated that yes indeed that would be quite possible and that he is quite flexible with customer requests on different parts and cosmetic features as well. I also prefer the chassis he offers that is not the polished stainless steel version.

Did you have any special request for the build?

I can't wait to see what Danny has in mind for a preamp to match.  I have a pretty good idea of what he is looking at but not quite sure if I'm correct.
