Having Your Audiophile Card Revoked?
« on: 25 Jul 2024, 02:45 pm »
Someone mentioned a few threads back that a certain behavior should result in having your Audiophile Card revoked. What kind of behavior in your opinion would qualify as ground/s to disqualify/revoke an Audiophile status?
Unfortunately not everyone is or can be an audiophile but one can become an audiophile, they are not born. :smoke:

You don't think going to a Taylor Swift concert would qualify?

Liking popular music does not mean you are not an audiophile.

I would say looking down and belittling others equipment would be a good qualifier for me.

That's an integral aspect of being an audiophile!!! Belittling makes you feel good about yourself because no one knows more about audio or what music is supposed to sound like than an AC forum member.

Your audiophile card must be revoked immediately if you claim that your system sounds better without tubes.

There are plenty of a**hole audiophiles. It's only when a so-called audiophile says or does something stupid that jeopardizes their membership. For instance, the guy who says, "cables don't matter" isn't an audiophile. It's OK if he doesn't hear differences, but to claim others don't is grounds for revocation, not because he's an a**hole for continually posting about it, but because he broke the first law of the audiophile creed -- everything matters.

Listen to Spotify or MP3.

I can't speak for Spotify I use Amazon. MP3, 24 years ago with the equipment I had at the time my friend and I could not discern any difference between 320 mp3 and a cd so we elected to use 320 mp3 codec. Not defending the use of 128 only 320.

As long as we all understand this is a spoof:

Owning a portable Bluetooth speaker.
Listening to rap or hip hop.
Using zip cord for speaker cable.
Having a Monkees album.
Using a cinder block anywhere in your system.

My Pet Peeve is there is this guy on Youtube that tries to pass himself off as an audiophile telling us that we can achieve hi-end sound with lo-fi, mid-fi equipment. C'mon, damn rights I can tell the difference because I went through the progressive steps to achieve hi-fi sound and it ain't cheap. Unless we are talkin' wireless bluetooth ear buds.

This guy ain't no audiophile!! :nono:

I like AC, very knowledgeable people and most are really cool. Sure we have our brand fanbase and I am one of them at times. There isn't very much of the "I know everything" mentality around here and always trying to be right about all the time. To me that is what irks me the most about some audiophiles. People can be confident with thier position and methods about certain audiophile subjects, and not be tool bags about it.

I listen to rap and hip hop.  Electronica, too.  Where do I go to return my Audiophile card?

I use 320/Flak on my mp3's. I use a USB thumb-drive in my company work vehicle, as well as my personal vehicle. Work vehicle has a factory radio with two factory door speakers, and barely any insulation. I do not expect audiophile sound.

I just wanna listen to some music in between the driving to work locations. I switch back and forth between FM radio and MP3 (work) and Sirius and mp3/Flak (personal vehicle).

I just want some damn music. I don't need a write-up on "Part Time Audiophile" on how good or bad it is. I just wanna listen to some music.
