Blue tooth with my vintage bolder dac
« on: 4 Jun 2024, 02:46 am »
Hey everyone.   I have some old equipment that I wanted to put back into service.  I had a bolder cables dac that I loved going into a custome made tube amp.  The question is, are there any bluetooth receivers out there I can connect to that does not already have a dac in it.  Since I want to use the one I have.
Thanks
Dan

A number of streamers will provide a digital coaxial output to connect to a DAC. Bluetooth compresses the audio and is not likely to provide the full benefit of the DAC, but it can sound ok.

The WiiM Pro Plus lets you play Bluetooth and send coax digital to the DAC. It's very versatile and well regarded for the modest price.

Just to add to the above, the WiiM Pro Plus and many other streamers will let you stream from a phone or tablet via Airplay 2 and Chromecast. Both of those options provide better sound quality than Bluetooth. You can also sign in to a streaming service like Qobuz or Apple Music and use the Wiim software to cue up streaming out to the digital output.

With the WiiM Pro Plus, you could even watch a Youtube concert video and stream the audio via Airplay 2 or Chromecast from your computer to the WiiM.
