Hello,

We sourced transformers from a few different companies, but the main supplier was Dynakitparts.  The transformers we used were modern copies based on the original Dynaco ST-70 transformer winding specifications.  Triode USA is selling replacement Dynaco ST-70 transformers, with the cost of a power transformer, two audio transformers and power supply choke costing over $1,100. Once you add the other component costs, along with the labor cost to build the amp, there is no way we could sell the amp anywhere close to the price we did in the past.

Best regards,

Larry

Why can't AVA just sell the parts kit without the transformers. If the users supply their own transformers and their own labor, and their own chassis, they could build an Ultra valve for around $1600

Hello,

We used to sell the Ultimate 70 upgrade kit, along with a factory upgrade, for stock Dynaco ST-70 amplifiers, but discontinued the factory upgrades and full kit due to the lack of sales.  We still, however, have the bare circuit boards and the kit manual available for those who want to source their own parts.  Note that the Ultimate 70 is the same as the UltraValve amplifier, with the exception that the original Dynaco power transformer is a bit more anemic and thus requires a single resistor value change.

Here is a link to the upgrade board on our Web site:
