The only clarity caps worth using are the MR/CMR.  At least for full range duty.  For mids and below the CSA series are good.

Edit: I like their new PUR series too.

More importantly than just a value for value parts upgrade is an upgrade that fixes the response issues and keeps the drivers from playing on top of each other.

Getting those steal parts and fuse, on the back panel, out of the signal path goes a long way too.

Great to find this step by step guidance with photos on upgrading the Maggie 1.7i crossover.
What a kind information!!
I wished a lot, but never had a courage to do it for myself.
Now with this guidance, I seem to manage do do it.
As a further assistance, I wonder if anyone could provide a tip as to how to remove the aluminum side stiles.
That seems a last hurdle in deciding the upgrade.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Thank you for the very interesting post. I am amazed that you were able to get all those components into such a small space.
For myself, the advice that "some battles should not be fought" applies to my current attempt to implement the GR-Research mod on my Magnepan 0.7s: I'm going external.
I have looked at posts about mods to LRS and 1.7 but not higher priced panels.
A surprising thing to me is how similar are the crossovers, even though the prices are nearly doubling for each step up the product line.
Also surprising to me is that the X-mod offered by Magnepan doubles the price of the speaker regardless of how much the non-X version costs.
My 0.7 speakers cost me $1500 in 2018 and would cost $2000 now, but the 0.7x would cost $4000.
Audio reviews lead me to believe that I could have my 0.7 speakers upgraded to x status for only $2000.
However, when I attempted to communicate with the service department by various means, they have not responded at all.
I had come to believe that if I wanted to upgrade, I would need to sell my current speakers, probably for about half of what I paid, and buy a new $4000 pair from a dealer.
I can tell you that I was overjoyed to find that an upgrade is available for such a reasonable price from GR-Research.

I can't get those things off the sides. It should be easy. But I still have to order the parts. I got this idea: print a frame over the hole where the crossover is. Once that frame is mounted, cut out the fabric. Once the crossover is adjusted, cover the hole with a piece of wood or aluminum.
