Thanks, Jury! That DVD player looks great!

I may have to wait a bit before I get the dvd player, so definately post your opinions on that if you can.

I have read some reviews about how fast these DVD players load up the DVD.
Not sure how this "compulink" thingy works but if the DVD is as nice as this receiver I will be psyched.

I just love the smell of freshly unpacked electronics...

One feature I'm really looking forward to on this DVD player is the 10-DVD bookmark feature--I've never had a bookmark feature on a DVD player (I've been using one I bought about 5 years ago), so for it to bookmark up to 10 is just awesome, IMO. I'll definately give reviews of both...

El,

Can you confirm that the USB input does indeed accept a AC-3 signal.

Just noticed overstock.com has the JVC RX-D202B for $194.95 and the RX-D302b for $324.95. Add in the 10% off and it's not a bad deal

Keep in mind that it matters who you buy this from.
You should make sure they are an authorized dealer.
Also things like return policy are immportant also.
I paid $200 shipped from Crutchfield, and got free shipping just for being nice, they send you free return shipping right in the box.

it's ok to be cheap, but be smart and cheap.

RE: USB, I may not get to testing that for a while, I have a lot to do this weekend, I will try though.

This cannot be stressed enough. Its better to pay more and have a liberal return policyIMHO.

I agree. I paid a few extra bucks and got mine from Amazon because of that. I love the fact that you can just go on their web page, state what's wrong and then print out a paid return label. That's worth the extra bucks to me.

Shwing!

I went to the mall tonight and BestBuy had the 420B DVD player for $69.

I have a lot of work trying to figure out this receiver and dvd player though. So many damn features it's not even funny.

For some reason my surrounds aren't working, but my kids wanted to see "shark tale" so I couldn't fix it without ruining their "movie night".
Ah, the life of a techno-dad.

Anyway the 420B DVD player is really nice, many video optimizations in the dvd player itself, super fast load and a ton of other features that make me feel old. Not to mention the super cool blue light dvd tray.....

So, Jury, I beat you I got the 202B and the 420B for 269!!

D'oh! Man, I wish I had seen that at Best Buy. I have a 10% off coupon, too. I could have bought it for about $62 instead of $90. Drat! My Amazon order has already shipped, too. Oh well, live and learn. :P

How do the pieces look/fit together?

Slightly different shades of black but not bad. It is pretty small/slim.
Has a cool light up tray. Great player, loads wicked fast.

Fabaudio,

FYI,

The PC Richard's at the Somerville circle in Bridgewater has a 201s on display. It looks like all PC Richards will be carrying the line.

They didn't have it hooked up when I went in. Only one unit was in stock and it was the display model. I don't think they had the model in their sytem yet. I will be stopping by this weekend for a listen.

I wonder if they will price match J and R?

Dennis

Hi all. first time post, but a regular reader. This isn't a review but just a comment. Was at H.H. Gregg yesterday and was checking out the new 201. Very slim and nice looking receiver. One thing I noticed was how hot it was, without any input. I could have fried eggs on it. The salesman came over and I made a comment on how hot it was and his reply was, we had one catch one fire just sitting on the shelf, with no input going to it at all. Don't know if it had a fan or not.but the only vents were on the left side and none on the top. This is just fyi. By the way, it was 184 dollars with discount.

Hey, el cheapo,

How have you hooked up the DVD player to go into the amp? I'm still waiting for the DVD player to come, but the one I have hooked up temporarily will only work in analog mode, so it's unable to identify when a disc is DTS or DD, etc.

Hey, Jury.

I have it hooked into the 420B DVD player with digital coax.
Interesting, when playing a dvd you can tell when the amp recognizes the DTS signal, and it switches the rear channels on. It also recognizes what speakers you have hooked up and displays them on the front LCD.

This is my first experience with a multichannel amp like this. Each speaker can be adjusted for your room size. There are a lot of different ways to tweak the setup. I am in the process of “building” my little home theater, that is my main reason I haven’t got to research the features much. I have a lot of cabling to do (including electrical) and stuff to order, right now everything is just wired on the floor precariously.
That, plus I have 2 week old baby girl in the house and she takes up a lot of time…

I also want to see if the USB connection would provide DTS decoding for a PC, I doubt it, but I am wondering...

OK, excellent. That's what I thought. I just have some RCA cables running from the cheap DVD player to the amp until the actual one comes. I'll have to go buy a digital coaxial cable.

Does the DVD player have an optical digital out? I see the amp has an optical digital in, but I don't think the DVD player has that function.

Oh, and does the DVD player come with a cable to let you connect the two units together for the remote? Or do I need to get that cable, too? (I wonder, can I just use a cheap earphone-style cable?)

So far, I really like this unit. I also love the individual speaker set-up, and I liked the automatic set-up based on your "target" room size.

The only thing I wish is that it had an input for a DVR like a TiVo. Instead the DVD and DVR share the same input. So I have to put my TiVo through the DBS input instead. Other than that, I also don't like the remote. But no biggie there. I think my TiVo remote is the only remote I've ever owned that I think is truly user-friendly.

In response to the earlier post, I've had mine on a long time now and experienced no heat issues. But I'll be keeping an eye on that.

The best part was that setup was superfast for me. I just unhooked the cables from my old amp and into this one--everything made perfect sense. Then I set up the radio, etc. I also love how it "remembers" the setting for each component. So if you set up your TV to run analog stereo with a bass unit, but your DVD to be Dolby Digital, it remembers that as you switch between them. Makes it super-easy for the spouse.[/img]

I guess the DVD player also bookmarks up to 10 dvds. That is nice.

No optical, just coax.
No, the a/v compulink cables are not included. Which sucks because that's just one other stupid cable you have to buy.

Nice, I will be keeping an eye on the amp temp. That is scary.

I have not thought about putting TIVO through this. I love my Tivo, but that is on another TV setup in my basement. Tivo rocks, baby!

OK, guess I'll make a run to Radio Shack tomorrow. My DVD player arrives on Friday.

Hey, the TiVo sounds great through it. Sure it's only stereo unless you run simulated surround, but I think it's very crisp.

Of course, DVDs sound better.  :P
